Question Duraspark II swap-do I need the voltage reg?

Last spring I swapped a 77' f150 300-6 with Duraspark II in my '60 F100 with original wiring. I made the necessary connections (red to switched hot - to power the 'box', white to S on starter solenoid-to retard timing slightly for easy start). I am having a problem of a dead battery after the truck sits for a few days. This is a new battery that has been back to the parts shack for testing and recharge. I heard from another fella that I should remove the original voltage regulator due to the inline 'regulator' in the alternator. I dont recall reading anything about this when researching the swap...any thoughts or input??? I am in that unique position of justifying the reliability of the truck to keep the Mrs at bay...i.e. I need more money to keep playing!

Thanks,
Ryan

Something is "on" when the key is turned off. (think the trunk light that never goes off, lol) May have to disconnect a thing here and there to find out what the source of battery drain is coming from.

It's true, you don't want two regulators. If the alternator has an internal, ditch the external.

What inline regulator? There's no such thing.

1984 and later Ford's had the regulator mounted on the alternator.

Prior vehicles, the alternator regulator was the same from 1965 thru 1983.

The original 1960 Regulator is Not necessary when one has coverted over to the DuraSpark system.

What pre 1984 Ford had an regulator attached to the alternator?

None.

With DuraSpark (which was introduced in 1974)...or without it, the same alternator voltage regulator was used from 1965 thru 1983 (1963/83 on T-Birds).

1960's still used a generator, so it would need either an atlernator with a built in regulator, or the fender apron mounted type used previously.

My 1985 F150 (Feedback carb and EEC-IV) came with an EXTERNAL voltage regulator that is mounted on the passenger's side inner fender.

Let me clarify, I'm also using an MSD-6A box, so the original regulater mounted on the fender apron next to the horn mounted on the radiator support, becomes superfluous.
