Snowplows

Ok I know it says we arent suppose to plow with our trucks. But its hard to get a job here in the winter. I just got laid off the other day and I build autoshow displays for a living. So with the car companys going bankrupt who knows how next season will be. We usually work 12 hours right now but we are all layed off. So next season I was thinking about maybe putting a plow on my truck. I was looking at the Snowway plows I think they are called. The series 26. They say they are made for our trucks. I just wana hear if anyone has them on their truck and how they like them. Also what kinda price range would I be looking at for any light weight plow. I also seen alot of people say the only ones that should have plows our xl and xlt with the snow plow prep package. Why didnt the fx4 have that option? Cause thats what I got. Thanks guys

plows

I hear you on that.. I am also in Michigan and it sucks here for work, I am a laid off electrician.. I have been thinking of installing a plow myself. I checked out online Blizzard plows there are a few distributors in Michigan I am closest to dearborn heights shop. These plows are made for 1/2 ton trucks like ours. Hope this helps out SS.

The blizzard is the way to go. I have thought about it but at this point i can't bring myself to put a plow on my pretty truck yet. But my boss has to blizzards on a 3500 dodge and an F350 and these plows are great. On the bigger trucks they extend to 10 feet and they also scoop... Great plow. About 5500 for our trucks.

you can put the snowplow on any version of our trucks

all you need is the Heavy Duty front springs...and a 4x4. you'll swap your OEM springs out and the HD springs can take the extra weight alot easier without sagging as much

you're going to eat ball joints up like mad if the plow is connected alot though

another option for you.... but i dont know how effective they are, is the pull plows.... our dealership here really pushes them (sorry, bad pun).... seems like a lot less wear and tear, but at the same time you could clear more snow at once witha push plow i would think.

Ya im just throwing it out there. I dont know if I want to. It would also be a pain to take off my bull bar and lights every year to put on the plow attachment and vise versa. But it might be worth it. If I do Im leaning towards the Sno-way plow. Its made of polycarbonate so its light weight. Its clear so I think it looks kinda cool. Plus I think I saw on their website somewhere it weighs 450 lbs. Which is like 100 lbs less then all the others I have seen. Might not be a bad plow and it has a down pressure to help clear snow better.

Snowplowing

I use my 06 FX4 supercrew to plow with the Snoway plow -- works great
Truck now has 90K miles and on its 3rd winter plowing.
Nothing ever broke while plowing. Ball joints are fine.
I did add:

1 - upgraded front springs to "U code+ 475 lbs
2 - add a leaf to rear + 800 lb increase
3 - 275 amp alternator & wiring from Nations Starter & Alternator (online)
4 - Sears DieHard Platinum battery (rebadged Odyssey AGM dry cell type 950 amp)

kind of mad a 3/4 ton out of my 150.

How much are the upgraded springs? I got the add a leaf already in the back cause over the summer I put a 3 inch leveling kit up front and add a leaf in back. Would my leveling kit mess me up or would it be fine. I would have to look into a bigger alternator but I would probably stick with what I got for now unless it starts to kill the battery. Do you have any pics of your truck with the plow on it? Just wana see how it sits with it on. Now that michiganhunter was talking about the blizzards I kinda like them too. Still got another year. Cant do it this year.

I have a SnowWay on my F250 that I have had since 1997. It has been great and I've had no problems with it at all. When I first got it I had a '95 F150 SC Short Bed.. It worked great on that truck. The only thing I changed from stock was I added airbags inside the front coil springs.
I traded for a SD because I bought a Travel Trailer and neede more power. The 150 only had a 5.0.

My Dad has a 26 Series snow-way plow. It was mounted on his 99 F-150 until my brother totaled it. Now it just sits not being used. But, it worked pretty good. It has the downpressure, wireless controls and the see-through polycarbonate moldboard.

It was actually used commercially. No problems with it at all. Nice little plow.

I have an 8 foot Arctic plow that weighs in around 800 pounds on my 2001 F-150! This is my second year plowing with it and no problems yet. The truck handles it well. I am very impressed.

Just take it easy, don't get reckless and a F-150 is a very capable plow truck. I will say a SuperDuty is better though.

Cool thats what I want to hear. Ya I wouldnt get crazy with it just some small driveways. We rarely get over 6 inches at a time it seems. Everyonce in awhile we get some heavy snow. What did your dad pay for the sno-way 26 if you dont mind me asking? Would he be interested in selling it? Im not sure if I wana do it this year or next though.
