460 motor mount trans issues
Ok so i will start with some history, I have a 64 F100 which had a 460 with a C-6 tranny. Now this tranny and cross member are out of a 77 f250 and I am swapping to a 75 f150 frame which had a stock 460 with C-6 which my neighbor took for his truck, but it seems my Tranny does quite line up it is about 1" off and won't quite sit down off about 1/2" too high. So I grabbed the 75 3 piece motor mounts as his frame is newer(80's) but i am wondering maybe could I have mixed up the metal clam pieces that attach to the block or would they only go one way. Just asking before i lift it out and try it? Maybe the C-6 trans mount is different but I wouldn't think so. Any experience would be appreciated.

Motor /tranny mounts
Ok so I have pulled the engine again and the metal clam motor mount pieces are in fact Right and Left labeled, but I had them on correctly.
So I looked at the tranny crossmember from the 77f250(was in the 64 frame) which I kept and it is in fact different than the 75 f150 tranny crossmember so what I did was just swap the rubber tranny mount with the neighbor and in she went. So in the end I guess I find it a little funny that the tranny member from a 77 and 75 would be different even though the both had C-6s. But it was only slight as the hole in the crossmember was down about a 1/2" in the 75 than the 77.
I guess you never know what you get when you buy a truck that old but that is ok that is why we come to the forums.

Hey dman, you don't have pictures of the motor in the '64 do you? I'm swapping a '71 429 stroked to a 460 with a C6 into my '64 F100 right now. I'm looking for any ideas on mounting the motor or what motor mounts you used. Any pictures of the motor mounts would be great.
Thanks, Doug

You can check out my Flickr page for lots of info. But My truck is on a 75 F150 Frame which came stock with a 460 Engine. I did that because it was cheap to buy the truck for $900 and it gave me Power Steering and Power Brakes with Front Disc, and better suspension with the twin I beam than a straight axle.
But When I bought it the guy just used the original 6 cylinder mounts and some 390 motor mounts from my understanding.
You could probably got to a wrecker and get the mounts from a mid 70's truck with a 460 and use those to mount your engine or get some L and L Mounts.
Here's a good resource for you to glean some info from.

That looks awesome!
What about using something like this?

Just weld a flate plate on the bottom and some 2X2 Square Tube and attached these guys? Or just weld a 2X2 Square Tube to the crossmember?

Thanks! I would like to mount the motor as far back as possible and as low as possible without cutting too much of the firewall out. I will look into those mounts though. I will have to mount the motor higher and much farther forward to get the mounts over the crossmember if I use those. I'll see if they have dimensions available on the mounts so I can lay it out in AutoCAD. What model are the Hedman headers you used? Those are exactly what I'm looking for. Is your '75 frame the same inside dimension as the stock '64 frame?

What about just coming off the frame back farther and welding to a part that has been boxed in?

What's the measurement of your frame? I will go measure mine and let you know. I also have a 57 I'm working on so I will measure that as well.

1979 Super/Crew Cabs & F350 Regular Cabs used a different rear engine support.
The rear engine support used with 1973/79 F100/350 460 Regular Cabs is the same as 1973/76 F100/250 2WD & F350 360/390 C6.
All 460's thru 1982 were 2WD and came with C6's.

D, I have been looking at those very mounts to possibly use, and probably will. My inside frame width is 29-1/2" on my stock frame. The '57 should be the same I think. I think the frame width of the '53 thru '64 were all the same. Let me know what yours measures out at. Thanks,
Doug
