Aftermarket Oil Changes Causing 6.0L Owners to Lose their Lids

Some aftermarket competitors have released 6.0L oil filters for both E and F-Series applications with an integrated oil cap. The complete filter/cap combination is thrown away after each oil change. While not being environmentally friendly, this action is also causing customer dissatisfaction.
It appears that owners are not always aware that this special style of filter/cap is being used – and that their original oil cap has been discarded. The next time they want to use an original style oil filter means they will have to buy another oil cap.
Ford has reduced the pricing of the oil caps to make it easier for dealers to get 6.0L owners back to original parts.
Remember, the 6.0 and 6.4L oil and fuel filters are patented for a reason and designed specifically for these engines. Help your customers by keeping their truck maintained with genuine Ford and Motorcraft parts.

He's not talking about the removable top piece on aftermarket filters. I believe this is about the filters where you unscrew the filter housing and screw a new one piece, filter integrated, threaded cap back on.

Not to change the subject or anything but aren't the fuel filters particular about fitment also. about sitting right and depressing a check valve of some sort, aftermarket ones may not depress it and cause fuel supply problems, which makes angry injectors. correct me if i'm wrong. i personally only use the motor craft filters just so i don't have any issues.

Yes I knew what he was talking about, and yes you are correct that he is talking about the one piece will-fit filters.

You are correct. I believe there are a couple other brands that are also up to OEM specs. Racor and Fram I believe.

Motorcraft is always #1 in my book though.

For the record, Racor is the OEM manufacture of the oil and fuel filter housing and filters for Ford. Framm buys their 6.0L filters from Racor and re-packages them (so they are OEM spec'd) and Motorcraft does the same. Int'l buys them as well and throws a generic lable on the top of the white box... Motorcraft and Framm use their own box graphics.

Yea I knew they all had the same patent numbers. I just wasn't sure I was spot on with my brands so I didn't want to say to much.

npccpartsman just posted that he found a "NON OEM" filters in a Fram box. So inspect carefully before you install - apparently they are not all repackaged Racor's.

Probably a dishonest shopper who switched filters and brands.

Buy a cheaper filter brand and put the Framm/Racor filter in it and pay for it.. then the person that buys the Framm gets a "will-fit" filter without knowing it!!!!

BTW, last time I pulled my 'motorcraft' filter out, the bottom plastic cap stayed in the bottom of the oil filter assembly. Ugg. Glue must have weakend. Took me 30 minutes to figure out how to get that out. The trick was a couple wires with even pressure on both sides to lift the plastic ring out from the bottom.

I contacted my source at Racor and he gave me the two part number for Napa/WIX that are causing all the problems by having the lids built into the filter (an all-in-one) filter combination.

57312 (Trucks and Excursions)
57313 (E series vans - but same filter and cap unit)

Below is the link to the NAPA website (click on part # for image):
http://wixfilters.com/filterlookup/R...&Submit=Search

I guess those sly guys at Napa/Wix think they are smarter than Racor in trying to get around the Racor patent. For only $19.99/ea, I will continue to use only Motorcraft oil filters (made by Racor) from Walmart or my local auto parts store!!! Funnything is... the WIX filters are not any cheaper and yet you get an inferior filter!!!!
