I drive the truck in my signature and was wandering if you have to pull the fuel rails to change the plugs in my engine. The fuel rails run right over the coil packs and looks like you'd have to take them off to get to the sparkplugs.

 

Some people claim they can do it without pulling them but I have never been able to.

 

The plugs on my Excursion have been changed twice without having to remove the fuel rail.

 

I dont know about changes made over the years but I just changed the plugs in my 2000 F250 and didnt touch the rails. There was one coil bolt on the left bank that a person needs a 1/4 drive universal socket to remove because of the manifold in the fuel rail.

 

Just finished installing "fords" new revised plug (SP507) for 04/07 5.4 3v.These plugs are welded where they were just crimped before.I had it done by a "non dealer" and saved
about $150. including tax.

It' actually fairly easy if you have enough tools (extensions, universals, etc). The only thing I removed was the bracket for the power steering reservoir so that I could get to the front driver side.

 

A buddy of mine helped me out with changing my plugs, boots, and fuel filter out the other day. I picked up about 1.5mpg, so I say it was a pretty good investment.
