removing cats and going straight
If you live where there are no emissions, than would you guys remove your cat? Would you consider going straight pipes? How loud do you all think that would be? Would my performance (low end) be negatively effected?
Is it illegal to pull your cats even if there are no yearly emmisions requirements?

removing cats and going straight
Forgot to mention that I'm actually going to try cutting my exhaust about 18" behind my cat, then junking everything after that. I'll then have the muffler guys either run a 3" pipe 45 degrees out to the side just in front of my pass. side rear tire, or have it split into duals out both sides.
I'll just be running a cat and no muffler. I have a 460, so I actually have true dual exhaust up to the cat, then the cat combines it and feeds it to a big muffler, which then duals it again and wraps it over the rear axle and finally out the pass. side at the very end of the truck.
I figured me just cutting off everything behind the cat and then having a shop add about 2' of 3" pipe would be the cheapest (under $50) and might not be too loud. I may do this tomorrow, depending on how my bumper install goes.

Well, I did it. I cut off everything about 18" behind the cat and had a shop weld on 2.5" straight pipe. The pipe goes about 3" then angles out at 45 degrees and exits right in front of the rear passenger-side tire.
It sounds very nice . Nice throaty rumble on start-up and it has a nice raspy rap to it when revved up . It sounds like my old `66 F100 with a 352, headers, and glasspacks. Might be too loud for some, but just perfect for me. It was the best $50 I've spent on vehicle mods.

I cut off everything from about 5 inches behind my cat about 2 years ago and it sounds pretty good. Even though the exhaust is exiting underneath the cab, it sounds like i have a glasspack. I'm thinking about cutting the cat off sometime soon,(Tommorrow if midas says it's clogged at all) splitting it, and running straight pipes out the back...I just don't know if I'll have enough backpressure...Anyone know if it'll make the truck commit suicide?
