40 MPH Shake/Shimmy

Ok,

Here is the deal...

at around 40 mph in either drive or over drive the truck has a "bucking" fealing if you put the motor under the amount of load where it will almost downshift. I never felt it before a couple weeks ago. This weekend i had a load of wood in the bed and the bucking got progressively worse to the point that it became concerning. I have another 3,000 miles until i hit 36,000 so i want to get everything taken care of before then if i can. Could it be a tire out of balance? Could it be something wrong with the transmission?

any ideas?

thanks

Does it feel as if your motor is loosing power? Or more like steering wheel shaking? IF it feels like your motor is shaking check you electrical system like battery alternator. when my battery was going down hill it would do something like that. but if its in the steering wheel check your wheels, u joints etc.. Also i see you said your close to 36,000 is your warranty up after that? If so i would highly recommend ford esp extended warranty...

Mine Had A Shake In Od As Well, Turned Out To Be The E-brake Was Out Of Adjustment And Was Causing The Rotor To Heat Up, Thus Causing Drag, Making The Whole Truck Shake. If It's Under Warr. Let Them Deal With The Headache.

ummm...the motor doesn't lose power....the stearing wheel doesn't shake...it's just a kind of bucking from front to back but only around 40mph...once you hit 45 to 47mph it stops....now that i have the load off the bed i can barley feel it too...

i talked to ford about it and they are going to look at it wednesday...

it did it in OD and with OD off...

If it happens both with O/D on and off, but only within a narrow speed range, it's NOT going to be an engine problem.

Sounds like either driveline, alignment, or wheel balance.....

It sounds like you have found the exact speed/spot/throttle position the torque converter locks and unlocks. It may be malfunctioning, and more torque is used when under load so it is much more profound under load.

the torque convertor locks at 38 mph...i don't think it's a engin problem either...

UPDATE:

Well, i got my truck back today and they said nothing is wrong and couldn't re-create it. I'm heading up north with my snowmobiles so i'll see if it does it again. They said they put it on the computer and nothing showed up and couldn't re-creat it by driving it either.

weird because it does it for me all the time when i have my trailer on or a load in the bed for the last couple months now.

we'll see what happens...
