With the help from a good friend we chopped the top on my F1 this weekend. We took out 2.5" and leaned the A pillers back another 5 degrees to give it a sleaker look. I have added some pictures to my webshots page (link at teh bottom of this post) check out the last couple of pages and let me know what you think.
It looks good to me,it doesn't appear that you did any cutting to the roof. Did you pinch in the sides? Looks as though it's working out fine, good job.
Yes we brought in the A pillers about 1 degree at the top. I am not going to put the vent windows back in and have new glass made all around. Now I need to fire up the TIG tomorrow night and start the slow process of getting it all welded back on.
Nice work, Mike. Going thru the gallery, it seemed like you had 2 maybe 3 projects going? I have 2 and a 3rd in planning, and doing it this way seems like nothing gets finished, lol.
Looks nice, been wanting to do the same thing to my 51 project, but haven't got up the nerve. Do you think TIG will warp things less than MIG? Just curious which you think would be best.

Outside of the dragster the rest are customers cars, I have a small fab shop at my house that keeps pretty busy. I realy like the 41 ****** and the 34 Ford they both have all aluminum supercharged Hemis in them. It must be nice to have all that money huh. I have a Cobra comming in next week for headers and a 38 Chevy 2 door sedan to finish up some wireing and get running.
Nice job brother!......just about anyone can "restore" a vehicle....it takes a "set" to cut one up and make it look right! Your pics installing your IFS will be helpfull when we get at our's...........

As I understand it the TIG weld is easier to finish than a MIG the MIG is a harder weld and I hate short arc welding sheet metal. I can control the heat better with my TIG and the heat zone is only about 1/4-3/8" from the weld.
I have one of the doors done and ground down and one of the A pillers done. I am going to hammer weld the rear part of the cab tomorrow night and Sat. to try and keep the warp to a minimum.
I will take a few more pictures this weekend and add them to my folder. I can't post pictures yet as an attachment.

I am cheap but I like things to look neat and clean. That being said I had a cut out MII frontend I got from a buddy that he bought in the 80s so I rebuilt it and bought a Speedway econo crossmember with unground welds and boxed the frame to the stock trans crossmember. Let me know and I will take more pictures when you need them.
Thanks for the info on the TIG vs. MIG. I had not thought about the hardness of the weld, but you are certainly correct. Looking forward to more pictures!
