fuel injection 460 build

Trick Flows with a good FI setup does sound really cool, but I'd never get them past the Calif smog ***** (or the wife..)

This is a list of what I've done to the truck since buying it May '08, and what the performance was with each change:
Times are with a stopwatch, leaving from a 1500rpm launch;
0 - 60mph 1/4 mile
1. bought truck
- had 3.5 single exhaust
- 33"x12.5 tires
- K&N filter 12.1 -
2. plugs, oil, tranny &
coolant flush 11.8 -
3. cleaned rotor & cap 10.3 -
4. Hedman headers,
4" exhaust 9.9 -
5. 35" tires, new cap+rotor 10.8 -
6. Jet chip, + 100lbs of
ballast in box 10.8 -
7. BBK Cobra 65mm tb,
port matched plenum,
custom 4" cold air intake 9.8 17.6@78
8. BBK adj. fuel regulator
- @ 48 lbs 'hot idle' 9.7 17.6@80
- @ 47 lbs 9.7 17.6@80
- @ 46 lbs 9.7 17.6@80
- @ 44 lbs 9.7 17.6@80
- @ 42 lbs 9.5 17.3@82
- @ 40 lbs 9.7 17.6@80
- @ 43 lbs 9.6 17.5@81
I didn't check factory pressure, as the reg. had a boss for the gauge, rather than use the shrader valve. All testing was done the same night, 1/2 hour apart, at full operating temp, no cooldown. I was as objective as possible.
The BBK tb and 4" intake made the biggest difference of all the mods; the truck pulls hard right to the 42-4300 shift point, and it doesn't seem to flatten out from 3500-4200 like it did before. I would not hesitate to say that I have gained 50 bhp from the setup. I previously saw a post saying that the 24 lb injectors are maxed at 350 hp @ 90% duty cycle; I would think that I was past that and running lean, which is why the small bump in fuel pressure helped the top end hp.
As I stated previously, I will be running the truck against some buddies w/newer trucks, and will post results.

I don't have any numbers, but read somewhere that it actually flows pretty good. It's basically a dual plane manifold, and the banana shaped upper inlet has two separate ports to it that are a decent size. I remember reading that the intake manifold isn't a restriction, but that the throttle body and intake plumbing before the throttle body were.

hello yall. new to the site.....not to the ford comune. i just picked up a 91 460zf5 for my 95 f150 project truck. i have a 95mm throttle body and a matching mass air meter for a mustang setup. to match that i have the adjustable fuel pressure regulator and 40lb injectors, im also running a garrett turbo from a 7.9l turbo deisel engine mounted in the bed of my truck with one single charge pipe going up to the throttle body. now the question i have is will my factory mass air 95 f150 computer hold up to the duties of this new monster with some minor calibrating.
i was running the injection setup on my ranger with a 408w without any problems. all that had to be done was the recalibration.
thanks

460 speed density
This is a great thread. I am glad I just stumbled upon it. Here is another good thread for the 460 fuel injected engine guys-

Lots of good info here.

I did the same thing as old racer guy is looking at to one of my 460s and recently put it on the dyno. Was really dissapointed with the numbers. we only gained about 30 horses and not much at the crank. I even ported the exhaust side on the heads. Really liked the Thorly headers and the cam worked great. The problem we learned was the stock programming really leaned it out under load. looking into a MAF conversion.

I posted in the '87-'96 truck forum about possibly starving for fuel now; I have since found that I was not. I had installed a wideband A/F gauge, a fuel pressure gauge and an oil pressure gauge on the pillar. Under WOT full acceleration, the fuel pressure was dropping from 52 psi to 29-30, but under normal driving it stayed steady. My A/F has been 12.5-13.2 at idle, 12.5-14.8 for normal driving(with quick spikes above and below from letting off the gas), but then 14.8-14.9 under WOT.
My rear pump was weak, it showed 50 psi at idle, but would pull down really fast under acceleration, not even WOT. I got the rear pump changed out, which fixed the rear, but not the fuel pressure drop at WOT. I thought they changed the filter when they did the rear pump, however they did not. Upon changing the filter, my pressure at the rail shows 56 lbs on the rear pump, and 54 lbs on the front. I thought the

i gotta slide a quik question in here...i intend a similar build with my currently locked up 460, and as i always do i plan on ridding myself of the useless emisions crap..no test here...however this engine has a egr valve sensor...i had a bad one on a tempo i had and i caused a 4cyl to get about 9mpg and my exhaust was 90% unburt fuel cuz it confused the computer so bad...sooo what is gonna happen it i toss my egr and emmisons? the same thing? if so what all can i safely trash?
getting rid of emissions stuff can cause motor to run bad and throw trouble codes. try fordfuelinjection.com, here you might find egr eliminators as well as other emission eliminator things. i found them for 5.0, but they might support links for other ford motors.
