Isn't it funny how the people on the gulf coast and in Florida get excited when the winds get to 75mph?
They call that a hurricane! Here, and plenty of other places, we call that breezy!

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn out shouting "Holy Crap, What a Ride" R.I.P.
Yep had 45 mile an hour breeze and took out 2 trees.
Lots and lots of trees here. I have 12 on my 9/10ths of an acre
That's one of the reasons winds here are a PITA.

I know what you mean. I have over twenty mature trees on my .5 ac lot. The wind brings down branches and pine cones. The small trees, the bears tear up going for the fruit.

Bruce thats not good. In wyoming when a tree dies here it is a bad thing. It is really hard to get a tree to grow here out on the ranch. Last year I planted 10 trees only 3 made it.

I have a surplus. Mostly douglas firs. We planted a few aspen which have prospered, but the fruit trees take a beating. I have one coastal redwood. My mom grew it from a tiny seedling when she lived in Monterey, but she moved to Florida some years back and she knew it would not live there. So she brought it to me. It was about eighteen inches tall, in a pot. So as soon as she got here with it I planted it out front and gave it a dedicated sprinkler. Maybe ten years ago. Now it's three times the height of our power line. I would guess between fifty and sixty feet tall and looking good and healthy!

Bruce that is so cool. I have 4 pine trees and then 6 others trees I dont know what they are but they are doing ok. Plus the 3 spruce trees I planted last year.

I have friends over the mountain, on the Nevada side, who have some acreage. Their attempts to grow trees have evolved into a system. They plant a tree, then they plant three or four two by twos around it then wrap that with one inch wire mesh to keep the deer from eating it. The posts and wire have to be at least six feet high and they have to put in drip irrigation too. If they don't do all that, they have nothing but sagebrush and junipers, but after five years it has begun to pay off.
They REALLY get the wind down there. They have a concrete tile roof. Once in a while when it gusts really badly they are afraid to go outside for fear of those fifteen pound roof tiles that take flight!
