patricks sales complete rebuild kits for $718.85 for a ford and $778.65 for a merc. That is pistons bearings rings gaskets and a new oil pump. Assuming no expensive sleeving is needed or hard parts like a crank there is no reason why you cant rebiuld one for under $2000 maybe a little more if you put all new head bolts and other misc. items. I am saving up to build one for around $5000 but am having to replace all the valves, installing a new 4"crank, and a performance cam. But a stock rebuild on an already running engine sould not be that bad.

the shops around here such as capitol and a couple others { capitol is now owned by funny car racer tim wilkerson , and if they do the same sh-tt- work on his fuel motors it's no wonder they blow apart so often !!!! } have gotten to where the work sucks to be polite , and the rates have gotten rather pricey . it almost seems to me that they charge different rates for different makes / engines . me and norm went , he to find out 'bout machining for his 426 hemi , me for the flatty and they quoted us 80 a hole , and it got worse from there ........... i'm still looking to say the least !!!!!!!!! p.s. a buddy with a big block c-e-y camaro had his done at the only other of three shops , that also quoted us the same crazy prices and got it done for half what they quoted us .??????
