Well, then I guess I will have to find enough to cover the front. Maybe I can find a whole town full during my trip and throw them all in the bed of the truck for some extra weight on the ice? Might work. If I get stuck I can use them for traction too! Maybe I will have to head through Boulder, CO or Vail, CO and pick some up.

The funny thing is that my in-laws live in Grand Junction, CO and it's a nice little town on the boarder of Utah. It's a nice red neck town full of good folks. Then just 40 miles up the road is Vail and that place is just ridiculous with bark humpers! Oh well.
That is one reason I am looking forward to getting back to AK...good folks for the most part.

The hard truth is that while I am at work I won't be able to plug in up there and I will be working 12 hour shifts. Soooo....if it is really cold then I am going to be going out a few times a shift to start it up. In that case I am going to look at remote starters that will automatically start the truck every once in awhile when the temps are below a certain point.
Thanks for the suggestions and I will add them to my list for sure!

I was thinking about the batteries. I will look into that. I have heard that swapping to sythetic oil will help the cold starts. I will look into the oil pan heater as well.

Extensive idling is considered severe service, eh, but then so is the Arctic.
I had 17,000 miles on my engine when the turbo variable vanes started sticking, thankfully the turbo was changed out under warranty, and iirc the dealership installed a Service Bulletin mod for the oil supply or return.
Here are some links for heaters.

I was sleeping in my truck, and running the engine every few hours till the cab got toasty, and I was running on pure kerosene with Stanadyne Lubricity Formula.
Best wishes on your trip.
