I live in the Rockville area and am interested in putting my 4x4 to use. Back in the day we used to go 4-wheeling at a place along the David Taylor Model Basin known as the German Trails before they built the Avinal TPC. That was some awesome off-roading. Fast forward to today and they have built on every square inch of open space around here. And don't even think of driving on Pepco property. Just wondering if there is still a place where you don't risk certain arrest for getting your truck dirty...

Hey Bern, Here tell there is a small place in Essex Dundalk area.
Most places are out of state, PA, VA,
Rausch Creek Offroad, Green Ridge State Park and George Washington
State Park. The 2 state parks are powerline trials some mud, rocks and
water crossings.
Rausch Creek is a fullsized offroad park with everything you could want
and lots of room. I'm in Westminster and the down side is it's 3 hours
from me up around Hazelton PA. You might want to check with the
guys in both PA and VA. chapters for directions
Hope this helps, buddy of mine just went to Rausch last weekend but my rig is
down.

Most of Md's western state forests offer designated off-road trails. Greenridge State Forest would be the closest to Rockville: I-68 approx 20 minutes past Hancock. Check into the Ranger station for a map and current conditions.
I wouldn't say it is a rock climbers paradise, but it does offer several miles of some rock beds, narrow roads, steep hills, large puddles, ruts, etc.

Thanks for the replies. I'm really getting the 4x4 fever as I close in on getting my F250 on the road. Greenridge sounds interesting, I’m going to look into it.
