I use motorcraft or rotella 10w-30 year round with no problems and it gets pretty BRRRrrrrrr up here. I used the 15/40 a few times but the truck seems to like the 10-30 better.I do not tow heavy or see temps much above 80 in the summer..

After that, it is all about personal choice IMO. I will say that it is useful to do a UOA or two. Some engines just do not like some oils - who knows why.
Hello everyone .... Any thoughts on Red Line 15w-40 Diesel Oil ?
I've been using it for 40K plus miles with absolutely no issues.

We have a fleet of 2006 model 14 passenger shuttle buses. The all have the 6.0 L Diesel engine. These buses run daily with a lot of idle time. On average, we put about 35000 miles a year on them. We have replaced every engine in the entire fleet. We do all required services including changing the oil every 250 hours...Any suggestions on how to make these engines last longer ? We replaced three of the rebuilds after less than a year... UGH!

is 5W 40 Ok for heavy duty use? Towing, plowing. I would think it would be too light. I read somewhere where for put out a bulletin that said it was ok up 100 degrees.

It is fine for heavy duty use - even in hot weather. The viscosity enhancing polymers ensure it works like a 40W when the oil temperatures are high.

Just be aware that it will shear to a 30wt in about 5k miles, so if you are working it hard, stick to a 5k OCI.

Currently they are supposed to be made by Racor. But they have not always been, and stock varies. If you know what you are looking for, you will be able to tell. If you don't know for sure, better just pass.

I don't buy Fram because I don't like the games.

Understand that one. What weight would you recommend for daily driving and fact were coming into lil warmer weather?

Many of us run a synthetic 5W/40 year round. Works for towing, and all weather condition. Personally, Rotella T6 5W/40. Change every 5k.

I've asked a few times but never gotten an answer. I was told about Delvac from a diesel mechanic. But I've known everyone runs rotella. How'd you like running the Delvac?

Well just did MY first oil change yesterday. Replaced motorcraft with rotella 15/40. Was gonna run the rotella t6 5/40 but hate to admit but was lil nervous as far as engine was concerned. I got 218K miles and not trying to ruin the motor. Just with the simple roll up ramps from auto parts store and 5 gallon bucket everything went smooth. Was gonna use Mobile Delvac but local ofreillys had rotella $10.99 gallon sale

I havew a WIX 57312 filter on my workbench, was going to do oil change tomorrow until I saw the report in this thread. I noticed the WIX filter in the comparison was a 57314. In addition to the poor quality, did they sell me the wrong filter?

As far as I know, Mobil Delvac 1 5w-40 is a real, Group IV synthetic.

Mobil conventional diesel is called Delvac. Delvac 1 is synthetic.

There is no oil named "Mobil 1 Delvac".

Delvac 1 (only available in 5w-40) is arguable the best diesel oil on the market. And, it costs twice as much as Rotella T6 5w-40. The T6 is a Group III oil.

Group III oils are made from conventional oil and can be called "synthetic" in the United States. Group IV oils are made from man-made ingedients, not "dino(saur)" oil.

The question remains: Are Group IV (or Group V like Redline) diesel oils worth it in a 6.0? Probably not. I have read that the redline Group V diesel oil shears much slower and you might be able to extend drain intervals in a 6.0, but it's $10/quart.

I hate oil discussions because there has been so much rumor about different brands. For a long time, mechanics, friends, cousins and neighbors claimed Ford didn't "approve" Rotella products. Just read the label. If it's API licensed, and you use the correct weight, it's fine.
