The issue was failures on break-in and that was from the lack of zinc in the oil. Part of the reason I use copious amount of assembly lube and oil with zinc for break-in. Issue two was is synthetic better than dino oil, yes and no. I use it in high heat engines. Like the air/oil cooled engines in my quads, but I tried using it in my 2 stroke race motors and it was tons worse than the dino stuff. Later on the synthetic/dino blends worked well.

Ok, you talking about quads & 2 stroke you in my naborhood now & I can relate to that.
Aint much other than eating I like to do better than carving up in a 2 stroke cylinder making at ol boy go fast.
Got a daughter on one been upsetting quite a few BOYs out in the racing world, holding some records anyways.

Well I did buy a 4 qt bottle of the 5w40 stuff. The truck leaks a lot, but one of the main leaks is the oil filter mounting O-Ring. I will put a new one in when I do my next oil change. I poured a little of the 5w40 stuff in, sounded like I was pouring in water into the valve cover haha.

Anyways, I think I am going to go with a 4qt 5w40 + 2 qt 15w40 combo next time. I am over due for an oil change, almost 700 miles since the last one oh my!

Anyways, has anyone used a ZDDP supplement for their oil. I was googling around and recall a product called ZDDPlus that is specifically made for flat tappet motors which need zinc. Anyone ever hear of this?

I used the Comp cams additive *and* Rotella when I swapped engines last spring.
Plenty of Crane 'red' lube on the cam and lifter faces when I assembled.

There's less than 10k on it now but I've not seen or heard anything "bad" yet.

Just interested in why you choose to blend anything?

I'm using the synth Rotella in my diesel and I have started using it in the gas engine in my CJ and it seems to really like it.

The extra zinc is really just for the cam break-in. It won't hurt to run it after break-in but it isn't necessary.

I would run the extra additive on break in just for the extra protection and the warm and fuzzy it gives.
I run Mobile 1 in every thing. You might want to go to
Mobil - The Oil That's Changing Oil
and do a little reading.
There is a reason most of the major car company’s BMW, Ferrari, Mercedes all ship with and require Mobil 1.
Bear have you tried this in your 2 cycle?
Mobil 1 MX2T Fully Synthetic 2 Cycle Motorcycle oil

No, I have not, mainly because I have a fairly large supply of the Merc oil that worked so well while racing and since I don't race anymore it is lasting a long time.
