The problem with a Y pipe is the crummy hole they put in the "straight" pipe
before welding on the "branch" pipe.
Do yourself a big favor and cut into that dangged Y pipe and take a look at it.
I welded mine up using coat hanger about ten years ago and that picture is
recent.
It felt like it added about 2 cylinders to my clunky old 360FE! :)
It'll do more for yours? :)
I changed mine from a "y" shape to a "Y" shape, it now looks like a header's
collector inside. That is one of my favorite modifications. :)
IMO when a guy brags on how his new headers helped the power situation, I
don't doubt it a bit but also figure many times, having gotten rid of the sorry
restrictive Y pipe, was part of the new boost.
