I am looking at a 2004 Escape with a 3.0 in it . It was brought over for a stalling issue . When I got it , it didn't stall , it idled at about 600 , and it had no codes , so I replaced the IAC . Upon restart , it idled higher (around 1300 ) , and it had what sounded like a massive vacuum leak in the rear of the intake area . It had the elbow for the large hose going to the seperator in the valley sucked almost closed . I then removed the intake , put penetratant into it and turned it up to check for seepage , replaced the intake and plenum o-rings , and re-assembled . Upon restart , same high idle and same leak . After it got up to temperature , it would stall . I was unable to find a vacuum leak with throttle body cleaner . If anyone can help , I would greatly appreciate it .
My 04 has always sounded like it has a vacuum leak. But since it runs fine and no other problems I don't mess with it. Had it checked for codes? The DPE? is also known to go bad.
