Ahh... the infamous Wilderness ATs. I had a set on my 1991 Explorer. I sold it before they lost air and rolled the truck.

So my 2008 F-150 Lariat has these sensors? I didn't know that. It's not in any of the literature I've read on it, but I have seen info on them. I figured it was an option.

We had Wilderness ATs on our Explorer and put 35k miles with 15k of that pulling a pop up trailer on those tires without a hiccup.

While Ford placed all the blame on Firestone for the rollover accidents, it was really an issue of no roll control or little roll control on the Explorer. However, low air pressure (below 25 psi) contributed to the ill handling effects and inexperienced drivers overcorrected for handling issues and rolled them. Most often with deaths. However, there were tread seperation issues that resulted from a cheap tire manufactured by Firestone at an attempt to keep Ford's business. High heat from low tire pressure caused the tread seperation issues. With a properly maintained vehicle, you'd never have had a problem. I put aftermarket sway bars on mine, along with wider tires, after almost losing it in a wet highway after I installed a supercharer. I really only sold my Explorer because I hated it. Going from a full size Bronco to that just didn't work for me. I traded it on an another full sized Bronco within a couple of years.
