3g alternator?

What is a 3g alternator? Pros/cons? I noticed that BC Broncos has an adapter to run one of these with an EFI harness. I was just going to use the alt out of the 88 I got the harness from...

RCrawler is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
The 3G is a late model, internally regulated, high output alternator.
I have one on mine and it works great.

Jason, do any of the vehicles listed run a v-groove belt?

No. All of them are serpentine belt applications. However, a standard Ford alternator pulley will fit on them. As I mentioned in the other post, I ran a single groove pulley for a while but had some belt slippage issues. I used a smog pump application dual groove alternator pulley for a 77 Bronco. I had to machine the back side of it (about .050, as I recall) for clearance to the alternator housing.

Jason, did you ever figure out a way to adapt a voltmeter in the stock speedo head in place of the amp gage? I remember you kicking around the idea a couple of years ago.

I got as far as taking a stock cluster apart and trying to match a gauge with the right sweep and with similar dimensions as the amp gauge. I am currently in the middle of remodeling my house. So MY projects have been put on hold .

There was an article about this in issue #8 of Bronco Driver... I'll try & dig it up sometime soon

edit -- If I recall, I think the article involved installing an aftermarket voltmeter in place of the stock ammeter, in the EB gauge cluster. Not, modifying the existing ammeter to be a voltmeter. If there's still some interest, I'll try & post up the article....

Here's a related thread on cb.com...
