This is probably not a good time to mention this, but Ford makes an accessory trailer tow wiring harness which includeds the 7-pin plug. FTE Parts Guy has it listed for 68 bucks plus shipping.

Good luck,

This is becoming a funny story. I have the truck towed to Ford yesterday. They call me back this morning and tell me it's ready.

Anybody want to know what was wrong with it???????

How about a bad freaking battery. I got a new battery and it runs like a champ. I have never seen a truck act like that over a deat battery.

So for those of you out there running on your original battery. If you get up in the morning to start your truck and it makes crazy noises, will not come out of park, and all of your lights start flashing rapidly, don't worry it's not going to catch on fire, just needs a new battery.

I feel like an idoit. On a more positive note. I did not hook up the 7 pin connector wrong. MATTD17.... you nailed it!!! Major Coincidence.

My battery started one day, and did what you mentioned the next.

After all these threads ive been reading about with people having crazy problems with their battery and my possible original battery in my 2004 F150, although the parts store tested my battery as being fine, im really thinking about getting a new battery ASAP!

Thats funny, because before all thhis happend, I was thinking about getting a good Optima or something like that just for preventative measures.

man im so glad all it was - was a simple battery... and nothing actually melting or frying.. i know just the sound of something arcing or crackling would have me worried to death about if it was going to be a pile of ash in the morning... But like i said im so glad it was something simple..

btw did ya ever finish getting that 7pin hooked up? i know i read somewhere you put it back on the stock 4 pin before shipping it off to the dealer.. curious if you ever went back to putting it in...

also whats the difference between the 4 pin and 7 pin? (BESIDES the number of pins) does it do more or something?

A 4 pin is good for small trailers that do not need a power feed or electric brakes. A 7 pin provides a power supply to the trailer and allows for using a brake controller to operate electric trailer brakes. If you decide to include a 7 pin on your truck I would suggest buying the trailer harness that just plugs in to the existing wiring harness. It is fairly inexpensive, you can keep the 4 pin and simple to connect. See quote below.

Adding to that, it also powers the trailer back-up lights.
