Diesel Guys Take a Look at This

John Samuel over on SoCaps posted these links:

Diesel Vehicle Smog Check Inspections Workshop Report - Bureau of Automotive Repair
http://www.autorepair.ca.gov/80_BARR...selpresent.pdf

Here's a link to the thread the links came from:

California Emissions!!!!! - Southern California Powerstrokes

Not law yet, but it looks like some phone calls and letter writing might be in order - for what it's worth.

Wow, that isn't very nice of them. Just another way to make us pay to get them out of their mess.

My VIN is odd so I guess the Legislature and Governator won't be bending me over until 2011. I really appreciate the small favor.

California is just so creative when it comes to revenue enhancement.

Fargin' bastidges!

Well it isn't passed yet, so there's a faint glimmer of hope.

Very faint.

Man if I have to start worrying about smog on my F250 I'm going to be pissed.. I bought the diesel so I wouldn't have to worry about smog. Guess there would be no reason to keep it..

Uh, I wouldn't go that far.

I have been expecting this. When I bought mine, the PO had removed the cat. I made the dealer put one back on it, because I figured this would happen sooner than later. I wanted to make sure it was their $800, not mine.

I already have 1 headache of a vehicle when it comes to smog. I don't need another one.

Plus my 2001 just has a straight pipe all the way out.. No cat or muffler. So there's more money I'll have to spend.. bleh.. I hate this freakin state.

Makes me want to go buy something that's old and doesn't need to be smogged and just set it up to just pollute the hell out of this place.. Stick it to the man..

Sorry just frustrated with our tree hugging state.

it looks like the 98-early 03 7.3 guys will be most affected in the beginning..the documentation states that the current equipment won't work with OBD II/CAN protocol, which includes all 6.0's...

i'd be surprised if the techs will have any idea what they are looking at during a visual....if you're OBD system checks out(no CEL), and you don't blow alot of smoke, you should be fine...

we have mandatory annual diesel emmisions testing here in NV...we do it on a dyno though...it's a joke....i've tested the testers, and they don't have a clue...it's a $45 fee to the smog guy..

I think you hit on the real reason, as Russ alluded earlier - REVENUE ENHANCEMENT.

Got nothing to do with clean air, IMO.

get ready to smog it. all the trucking companys have been meeting and talking about this for almost a year. it's going to cost about $10,000 per truck to retrofit so they will meet calif smog standards. even the trucks delivering to calif. will have to meet these standards. also the farmers and their equipment, even their water pumping systems. if all this happens get ready for the price of everything to rise. my wife has been to a couple of meetings on this with the people pushing the law. all they say is "it's going to happen and to deal with it"

It's a tough deal going against a measure like this....the people that own diesel vehicles or operate a commercial trucking company or farm are a minority to compared to those that don't.

Now, IF all diesel owners, Gay, Lesbian, Transgendered, Bi-sexual freak-a-zoids from....er, uh you know where....there'd be NO problem...but since that's not any where near the case. So, this is in all likelihood going to go through.

People that don't own diesels..figure.."Hey, if I don't own one, it won't be affecting me." The fact is it WILL affect them in higher costs for consumer goods....shipped by Uh-Oh...EVIL diesel powered vehicles.

Who is behind this...? Socialists and out right Communists that want us living downtown in a tenement riding Public Transit, Bicycles or Walking to work, the grocery store and so on.

Think about why a normal house is not built on a normal family sized yard these days.....it's all part of the same agenda.....

Let's not forget to the fringe eco-***** who hate "Breeders", "Sprawl" and the EVIL Combustion Engine more than they do the bloddy IslamoFascists that want to destroy Western civilization.

Diatribe Over, Peace OUT.
