That's funny as hell! A level of madness that I can completely agree with. Seriously though, gas has gone up in the area of $.20 a gallon in the past 10 days. By the time my Expy is paid off in 2010, I'll be looking for a Fusion as my plans for the Superduty will be unrealistic and unaffordable. I have a truck. I'm not buying a bigger truck just to feed it expensive fuel. I'm not completely sold on the F-150. Once again, no solid front axles, no manual hubs, blah, blah, blah. I think Ford is doing the right thing by working on the hybrids, Ecoboost and anything else that sips fuel. We are in the eye of the storm IRT fossil fuels and other forms of non renewable energy. Ford's MOJO will be to be the leader of reliable, innovative and affordable automobiles.

Thanks! Yeah, I hope they pull off something good w/other forms of energy.
I just read an article that stated, now that gas prices are down, their thinking of hiking the taxes on gas and even more so on diesel. (which of course means that if the truckers pay more, we pay more - for everything).
-It said since people are driving less and using more fuel effiecent vehicles, supposedly they can't afford upkeep on the roads. Sometimes I think the government is a giant money sucking leech completey out of control. ....o.k., most the time I think that.

The goverment has said they don't want fuel prices too low. They want fuel prices at a level that encourages conservation. By hook or crook they'll get fuel prices back up there. Reguardless of what joe blow can aford at the bottom of the economic ladder.

Of course - the Middle East has us by our short 'n curlies.

I don't know people argue that if Ford resorted to producing more 9k-17k economy cars they wouldn't be making any profit. For one, thanks to gas prices and unemployment, people are trying to get their hands on a cheap fuel efficient car. We don't produce very fuel efficient cars. Toyota, Honda and the like, do. So what's everybody doing? BUYING FOREIGN!!! If Ford jumped on the bandwagon, we wouldn't be supporting Japan's auto industry, but rather our own. Since the public's loyalty to American auto companies is almost kaput, Ford needs to compete with the SmartCar and the Prius and give the people what they want. THAT will gaurantee Ford's future is long-lived.

Right now the middle east is scrambling to stop the collapse of oil and we are in a very good position now to really put the screws to them

I disagree that we don't make fuel efficient cars. We make a ton of them, but people don't buy them because US made cars have a poor reliability record and a bad reputation. It's a reputation that is well earned based on the cars of the 70s on.

So now US car companies need to continue to improve thier cars (which have gotten much better). They need to market them instead of only marketing the big profit trucks, and they need to stand behind them with excellent customer service.

If they did that, they could probably be selling them for the prices that Toyota and Honda sell thier Camrys and Accords for and might even take back some of that domestic market share.

You're right - we do make fuel efficient cars. What I meant to say is that they don't quite stand up to the Prius and the SmartCar and the other sippers out there.

I also agree that the escapades of the 70's dramatically tarnished their reputation, but when you think about it, the automakers were just doing what Uncle Sam told them to do. The Clean Air Acts forced all of the automakers to focus on emissions, when right now, since the Arabs have us screwed, we're focusing on consumption.

Now is the time to put the screws to the Arabs. We should shut the country down - everybody take a week off work, stay at home, and watch TV. Those *******s'd be swimming in so much raw crude the first day, by the end of the week they'd be drowning in it

What does that mean for us? Gas for $0.05 a gallon. I'd drink to that

I think ford should go for high quality products, but less of them.
And stop offering so many stupid choices in trucks.

Take for example the F-150.

Offer say three trim levels, basic trucks for work, and such with no carpet etc....a mid line truck say around the level of an xlt or lariat, and a high end truck with all the bells and whistles.
And stop so many other gimmicky things.
Why not offer say two motors only, a V6for people that do not need big power, and then say the 5.4 and have it set up better, like say it would be with an edge tuner installed like my truck has.
It has more power, and uses less gas than stock, so its a win win situation for the buyer.
Some of the 2009 F150's I have seen have a really crappy looking dash, that just looks cheaply made....that does not impress me, especially since they want an outrageous price.

I think there are too many options on the cars and trucks both.
Streamline them all some.
But make them all top quality, so that word gets out how great they are now.
Once that words spreads, they will sell more.

i agree the trucks should only have two engine options for the f150,a v6 and the 5.4 triton. They should start doing performance options when u order from the factory like roush racing exhaust systems, supercharger, headers, performance chips, lift kits, and brush guards. they should have more interior options for work trucks and daily drivers, the 250 can keep their powerstrokes but the same thing as the 150s they should come with perfomance upgrades.they should drop some of the cars and get back to basics, like the f-seires trucks, explorers, expiditions, toruses, and the mustang. the only reason we are suffering is those goat ****ing *******s in iraq if we nuke them we would be doing better

Whoa...your profile says you're 19, have a 2 month old kid, and lists your interests as "plowing, mudding, and doing dounuts (sic) in the snow"

With all due respect, you're not showing that you have the qualifications to be either a Ford product planner or a military strategist... Perhaps a bit more education is in order.

I don't think any of this will work. Especially the part about Iraq. And I don't think you'd be buying a new Ford truck all too soon, performance options or not.

This in opinion is a great reason why the Nissan Titan failed. Initially, the truck simply didn't offer enough choices IRT bed size, engines, transmissions etc. Until recently they didn't make an attempt to appeal to the contractors nor the tree huggers who may have prefered the V-6 4x2 option with a long bed.

I hope your not planning to teach your new young family this bile.

Tim

Don't be too hard on him, remember what it's like to be 19. The worlds problems were simple as well as solutions. I'm sure if he would give it more thought, nuking anyone isn't a good idea, or as simple as it sounds. Nukes would be a last resort under any curcumatance and would need to depend on our very survivial as a people, not the first option drawn from a hat. At 19, anyone who screwed with us should be just nuked, a simple solution with no thought behind it. More of a figure of speach than a real option. Thats why the forefathers wanted people to be at least 40 before becomming president, so they have time to become mature in thier thinking. At 19 you will make dumb statements like that, then when called on it, you will feel boxed in and forced to defend your position even if you know it was a dumb statement to begin with. Cause you don't want to addmitt to the world that you were wrong. I'm sure in his heart he doesn't feel so carefree with the use of nukes, it was just a statement made without really thinking about what he just really implied. The killing of millions of inocent people is only the real answer if your a madman like Hitler or Sadam who are insane to begin with.

I'm 18 - allow me to relate...

If I'm old enough to be drafted and fight a war, I'm old enough to give my thoughts on military strategy.

With 6 combined family generations working for Ford, I've heard it all. I have a good understanding of FoMoCo and their operations even though I have no qualifications as a Ford Product Planner.

I also use phrases such as, "Piss on Japan!" and "Nuke those *******s!" ... do I mean it? Yeah - sarcastcally with a sense of humor!

Don't undermine us because we're young, and don't be so quick to take serious our sarcastic comments.

I think simplifying available options should be in Ford's gameplan. As I mentioned in a previous post, the 1998 Expedition had over 410,000 different option combinations. The Expedition alone! The Navigator was just shy of 400,000! Tooling and manpower cost a little high you think? It shows in their $60,000 +/- price range!
