This isnt a ford enthusiast forum. Its a ford TRUCK enthusiast forum. Wanna talk trucks, I can tell you all day why I love fords. Wanna get into cars, i can tell you all day long why ford lost my business with cars (except stangs), and provide links to back up all the information I "spout off" about.
Japanese junk, american junk, they all make something junky.
I can tell stories all day about good and bad ford cars ive had over the years, and good and bad japanese cars ive had over the years.
I dont really get why crappy ford cars, and crappy japanese trucks are talked about in this specific are of FTE, and Im guilty when it comes to talking about them too, there is a ford versus the competition for talking about just that, and a general auto section if ya wanna praise some of fords products that arent trucks!

easy killer, i knew there'd be 1. did you read the name of the thread? in order to figure out what Ford needs to do to regain it's "Mojo" one would proably have to discuss what it's doing wrong and what it's competitors are doing right.
wouldn't ya think?
You typed this as i was typing my little spiel there, but you actually kinda brought a good point to something I said.
I guess to improve a company you DO have to see what other successful companies are doing, no matter if they are japanese or american. I can only guess that dodge is looking at ford as well as toyota as to how to imrpove stuff.

well, if veryone is so high on honda and yoda, why aren't we discussing this on thier forums instead of a ford enthusiast forum? Why do people come here to sing there praises? I wouldn't hit a dog in the butt with either one. Why doesn't anyone come on the ford site and sing the praises of chevy or dodge? I guess it's because nothing pisses off a ford guy than japanese junk. If these japanese vehicles are so great, stop talking about them and go buy one and leave this site to ford enthusiast. Sounds like a plan to me.
Hi Wendell:
With all due respect, calling a Honda or a Toyota "Japanese junk" does not make Ford any better. Many families own multiple vehicles, and I'm guessing that like in my case, one of them might be a Ford truck but the others may be something else.
Putting Ford into the context of the other vehicles that are available makes sense to me, especially when the thread is about Ford getting their "mojo" back--that is, what will make Ford more attractive to people who have chosen other vehicles, or who have had problems with Ford vehicles, etc.
Honda and Toyota have definitely done some things right, including their QC and their customer service, and talking about this as a goal for Ford to attain does not seem unreasonable to me at all.
Living in the Detroit area, I would love nothing more than to see everyone buy a Ford (or even Chrysler or GM) over imports because it would help my neighbors and my city. But the reality is that there is a perception--backed up by reality--that Ford is not as good as some other mfrs at maintaining customer loyalty.
To be "pissed off" at Dodge or GM or import owners is not going to help Ford or your cause at all. The world would be really boring if there was only one car or truck brand to choose.

agreed.....and as for dodge, i hope your right. outta all the fords in my family, i was the only shmuck to buy a dodge truck....thing has not held up well at all. neither has my father in laws. shoulda followed the family and bought a ford if i was gonna get american. but i guess thats just my own experience. my grandfather left me his 64 f100, i trust it more then my dodge, and it's 32 years older.
We all have our faves...I personally like the 1973-79 "dentside" myself, including the good ol' '78 Bronco. I'm biased because of my beloved old '78 pickup, of course. But there was just something so classic and "right" about that vintage.
They went retro with the Mustang (but it did gain a lot of weight due to technology, safety, and luxury gear), so why not do it with the trucks?
Only problem is that people now want a huge back seat in a pickup in which you can fit a 50" TV--the ONE time you bring one home from Best Buy.
And I wonder what any of those old Ford trucks would look like in that rear end hula test video where the Toyota looks like it's gonna break...
George
Actually the 79 model is my favorite but for i think for all around funcionality-the best mix of light wiegh and aerodynamics would be found in the 92 -96 models. with a 5.4 and 6.0
Great, I'm "that guy." Did some quick research. Obviously their can't be allot on a 09' model in what I'm about to bring to the table, but;
according to Consumer Reports (well known and respected);
the fusion scored extrememly well for last 3 years (06-08), but in a two year survey of people actually owning the vehicles, when asked if they would by it again, it scored tie for 9th. Beat out by a honda and two toyotas. First 2 places? Toyotas.
Remembering these are actuall owners, not consumer reports opionions.
The F-150?
Tie for 10th. Beat out by 3 different models of the Tundra. With Toyota again taking 1st.
But, you have my hopes up....maybe 09' is a year for improvement.
Great research and thanks. Which Honda and which Toyotas outscored the Fusion? No denying that Honda and Toy have developed a great deal of owner loyalty. The Fusion scoring 9th place doesn't mean that the car is lower in quality, it could mean that the customers were unhappy with the service experience or perhaps the car just didn't do it for them. I've owned cars that just failed to excite me and I would never buy them again.
Tim

To me, thats what they are, japanese junk. I don't need to call them junk to make ford look better. Ford has took me anywhere I've needed to go all my life, as wll as my father and his father as well as my sons. The japanese crap gets talked about more on this forum than do fords it seems like and it's crazy. Fords trucks or ford cars, they are all made by the same company. I understand it's a free country and you can like and buy anything you wish. Toyota and honda get pushed down your throat untill you want to gag. All I'm saying is give the japanese stuff a rest and lets hear about fords. Honda does make a good car, but toyota has been having flaws and recalls as much if not more so than the americans. One mans junk is another mans treasure they say.

Great research and thanks. Which Honda and which Toyotas outscored the Fusion?
Tim
toyota prius, toy camry hybrid, honda accord, and a tie with toy camry regular. - customer 'would you buy again.'
but the fusion was ranked "better then average" to "much better then average" (which is obviously real good)....all models for the 3 yrs.
Your previous statement about it being a good car is backed by that research, and your statement about "just not exciting" people seems correct also. Seems your right on the head with both.

I know, that's how I felt.....until I owned a civic and a sequia. But alas, I'm sorry to frustrate you. Though it's not like we're posting in a thread in which like previously stated, it has it's place here.

I gotta tell ya, I wouldn't buy a Fusion or a Taurus until 2010. IMHO, they are great reliable boring blandly styled cars. My '68 Chevy II had more curves than the fusion. However, I read an article in yesterdays local paper about the newly road tested 2010 Fusion Hybrid. Ford has eased the front corners a bit and added some style to the reliability. The tester averaged 53 mpg on the Fusion Hybrid. If that doesn't generate some interest as our fuel prices start to climb yet again.....

Based on the Dead cat Bounce with oil prices in the market today, the trend on oil prices is still down, so my guess is the interest in hybrids is going to the back burner for a bit.
Rick.

I don't think they will Rick, 4 dollar gas is still fresh on everyones mind. When summer hits, gas will be up again. The only thing that may hold it down some will be the shakey world economy. It's allready starting to rise a round here. I think fuel efficent and alternitive fuel cars are here to stay. If for nothing else, to keep fuel a way from the 4 dollar a gallon mark. Then you have the green movement in full swing.
