OK, I'm probably gonna get really flamed for this...., but, if we're going retro, I really liked the way back when (70's?) DODGE "Lil Red Wagon". It really stood out. Course it couldn't hold a candle to my '350 performance wise, but as a toy.......The one I saw had the light maple side racks, really did resemble the Radio Flyer. As I recall, had chrome stacks.....
I'm not gonna flame ya as I too thought it was a nice looking little rig.

This is something I have also wondered out loud why with it's following would Dodge not come out with a retro "Lil Red Express"?

The basic vehicle was a short-cab stepside, and they don't make anything in that format these days. (Maybe some kind of Dakota would work?)
George
It just seems that the US auto companies are so busy watching the forest (which is rapidly shrinking) that they can't see the trees.
The formerly big three no longer foster competition between themselves ie.. Mustang against Camaro or Charger I know Challenger but it should have been the Charger.
They do a tiny bit of it with the pickups but everything else is just vanilla.
Folks don't have desires about buying a new car or truck in most cases anymore now it's just because they want better gas mileage or it needs to carry 6 people.
Crap race them against each other and pull them against each other and get some heart back into the American auto industry.
Rick.

This platform is like the coat of many colors. They don't know what they want to build.

yes i agree they did a very nice job at de-chroming it. and the front bumper helps ALOT
but im still waiting for the uros to come over.
ill prob end up buying a new fiesta after they been here for a couple years.
gotta let them work the bugs out
bryan
The Fiesta has been going strong across the pond for a long while. It probably won't have any bugs to work out. BTW, the Fiesta is bad A$$ looking. Gas around here is creeping towards the $2.00 mark. A sustained price of $2.50 is as high as I'll go when purchasing a new truck. Anything over $2.50 and I'm getting a gas sipper and I'll continue to operate my '88 on an as need or weekly basis.

Ford has great advertising spokesmen. They have Mike Rowe and Toby Keith.
Ford needs to make their globalization speed up a little and expand their range with more than 4 cars from Europe.
Fix Mercury. Leave the ****ty rebadging to GM. They need to redo the ENTIRE Mercury lineup and add a couple new cars like a new Cougar and Marauder). Don't kill the Sable, but rather make it out of the European Ford Mondeo. Make the Ford Kuga the Mercury Mariner. And etc. etc....
Add some new cars to the lineup. Bring over the Ford Everest, Ford Falcon and Falcon Ute. They are great looking cars.
Expand Lincoln's lineup a bit. They have nothing too impressive besides the MKX and Navigator, and those don't even sell very well.
We had a discussion yesterday.
I was at a buddies, we are rebuilding a GMC 6.5 diesel, yes I know I said the G word LOL.
Anyhow we came to a conclusion that was based on some past and very recent personal experiences dealing with OEM car companies.
Now just before Christmas the 23th of December to be exact my wife and I were treated very poorly by the local ford dealership, not Ford the company.
Then getting back to this past week my GMC buddy goes into a local GM dealership and says I need to price out a couple of 6.5 bare heads how much.
The parts guy says $2,600.00 each my friend says no wonder no one buys anything from you guys your prices are ludicrous, his friend says don't worry they're all on government welfare My friends laughed the GM folks not so much.
Now my pal went to a local engine shop the bare heads were the new 4 pounds heavier improved heads around $300.00 each $500.00 fully dressed ie valves machined and ready for bolt on.
So we all came to the conclusion maybe some of the fault lies with the dealerships that are trying to sell something for almost 9X the price everyone else is selling it for.
Rick.

First off, I am a little shocked and saddened by your poor treatment. I have never had a bad experience at a Ford dealer, but I'm not remotely familiar with the one you went to.
But yeah, dealers overprice for a few different reasons. First off, they are a direct link and reps of the head corporation and are trained so "professionally" and all that nonsense. Also, they need more money, unlike a small shop mechanic who gets buy nicely one car at a time. You see? It's all about who's who and all that stupid garbage. That's just one more reason it's nice to have a dad who is a heavy equipment mechanic.

That's actually a really good point that I haven't considered. In order to create a pecking order, Ford makes these dealers compete against each other in sales and service, often times to the detriment of the consumer.

Or even a smart business practice to charge 9X what everyone else is charging for the same thing, and that it's head offices fault too?
Well based on evidence I've seen and heard doing business in that fashion is a recipe for a business failure, now I've never charged someone 9X what it was worth for anything so I can't say for sure but it is my opinion LOL.
Rick.
