Same here. We don't do a thing on New Years other than try to get to sleep before the noise starts. Got a damn phone call at midnight from a friend wishing a happy new year. I appreciate the wish, but he could have waited until today.

The fireworks woke me up at exactly 12, but they were very light compared to some recent years. I don't know if it was foggy yet, it sure is right now. The fog might have put a damper on the outdoor activities.

Does York Field still have fireworks displays? We used to go see them over there when we were little kids.

I don't think they ever did for New Years. You are thinking of July 4th. They skipped a few years because of tight budget in Whittier, but this year they brought back a smaller show for the 4th. But IMO that was just a concession over the battle going on to allow firework sales.
It was a great show years ago. I can see them from my front porch now, but only the big/high ones, so I don't know how good it is. They charge now to get into the park and it's a community party kind of thing. Not of much interest to me.

This post cracks me up-

I was thinking of starting a So Cal thread where we could post links to the most poorly written, misspelled, stupid, or just plain wrong posts. Sort of a Darwin's best kind of thing.

Ah - so the fireworks that woke you were of the non sanctioned variety? Nice.
Better than gunfire though - I'm sure there was some of that going on, but I didn't hear any.
KFI's going to have live commentary on the Rose Parade this morning. (Resnik in for Handel).
They did it with Handel a few years ago and it was a riot. If you are like me and are watching the parade for whatever reason, try turning the TV sound off and listen to the radio broadcast - should be entertaining.
