Replacing block heater ??

When replacing the OEM block heater, do i need to drain the antifreeze first ?

Mark, I am pretty sure that is an oil heater.. I am subscribing to just to learn the answer..

I don't think you have to but you will have it coming at you while replacing it with the new one. And it is antifreeze that it heats.

Tracy, I picture this thing being a rod heater, does this thing run down a port in the engine,along a coolant jacket, or how does it work??

It is similar it how a hot water element works it heats the coolant keeping the block warm which will inadvertently keep oil in the block warm.

Are you sure it is bad? Ohm check it.. it should have about 40 ohms if operating properly. Check it at the block.. Read alot of posts where the cord/plug were bad..

it is most likely your block heater cord and not the heater. mine was acting up and i changed the cord and it is good to go!

They are right Mark check your cord first 90% of the time that is all it is and that is a lot easier fix.

My truck block heater is fine

My buddys truck is the one where working on today, he bought a new heater of E-bay and asked me to help him install it, along with a long list of other things.

if the new heater came with a separate cord, just try swapping that out first!
