Talking Alternator up grade??

I'm looking to upgrading my charging system. I'd like to use a newer Alt that has a internal regulator with a higher amp output for lights, winch, stereo, ect...
Anyone know whats a good Alt to use and how to you bypass the old external regulator?
Thanks
Happy New Years!!!

There are many different options for high output alternators. It depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.

There are int regulated GM alternators with outputs of up to 200 amp. And the Ford 3G swap is very popular.

I have a 3G upgraded to 150 amps with a one wire hook up on mine. The only problem I ran into was slipping belts. I had to modify a alt pulley for a smog pump application and run a second belt from the power steering. It works great this way, but I will eventually isolate the alternator from the power steering. I have mine wired directly to the pos side of the starter relay with a 4 ga wire. With this setup, the amp guage will only show battery discharge from cab accessories though. This keeps the high amperage (heat) from going through the light gauge dash wiring.

If you do a search in this forum for 3G alternator, you should find all you need to know for applications and how to connect it. The GM alternator will be similar to this. You will just need to find out what connections the alternator has.

Go to the classicbroncos.com forum and send RRRAAAYYY2 a pm about this. He is the starter and alternator GURU over there and can hook you up.

Not sure about his prices though....?

Here's the website of his company...
SVA Power Products

Good luck.

Ok, I picked up a 3G alt monday from the local pick-n-pull.
Its from a 95 Tarus 3.0 v-6.
Looking to install it in the next few days. I was looking at this diagram.
ClassicBroncos.com Forums
I was wondering on the LG/R wire do i need to run the 510 ohms resistor/charge lamp or can i run it straight to a hot in run? If i need one where would i be able to pick one up?
thanks

If you don't have a light on the dash, just wire it direct. According to my research.

The green/red wire in the alternator harness should be connected to the green/ red stripe wire at the Bronco regulator.

Just wanted to thak you guys for your info.
I stalled the 3G Alt this weekend and it went in with no problems.
Charging at a good 14.4v Everything seems to be working great.
Thanks again. One step closer to putting in my EFI.
