I currently own an early 77 f250 and i have my eye on a 78 or 79 f250 for cheap the pick up has a broken 400 and the bed is rust out in the front my question is i want to take the bed off the 77 and change the motor what complacations am i going to run into with the bed? and what with the motor swap besides the obvious motor mounts and bigger radiator?

What exactly do you do with the motor mounts situation?

my 77 someone before me has put in a 460 . so are the frames any different or can i swap bodies? i guess another option is to take out everything from the motor back for 4x4 reasons being the other pick up will have a married set up and my 77 missing parts . If i go with this choice things should all bolt up shouldn't except the transfer case cross member? should the 4x4 lever fit through the existing hole ?

If your '77 is a High Boy the bed bolt holes won't line up. The High Boy frame isn't as wide in the rear as the '77.5-'79 Low Boy's. You would just have get the right flywheel or flex plate to put the 400 in. I would try to find another 460. The shift levers are in the same position in the floor.

cant i keep my 460 in my 77 and just take everything from the motor back in the 79 because the tranny is a c6 i believe the only problem is the transfer case cross member but is solved by drilling new holes into the frame ?
