'06 Escape Remote Trunk Opener??

Hi all. I just purchased a used '06 Escape and it came with remote entry. It has a trunk button but it doesn't seem to do anything. If I hit unlock twice the trunk and rear doors unlock, but the trunk does not pop open like. The remote unit itself looks pretty generic (ie no Ford markings) and the spare unit does not have the trunk button. Does this mean it is aftermarket and/or the Escape does not support the feature?

I've never heard of remote rear hatch opening on any year model of the Escape. I would think that if it could be remotely opened then there would be a button inside the vehicle.

You probably have a generic, aftermarked remote.

I bought a used 05 Escape from a Ford dealer and they gave me one remote with 3 buttons and the second one had 4. The trunk button doesn't do anything. The sales guy said that's all they had for spares.
