The headers should be the same except for the fittings attached, but the y-pipe will be different because the 5.8 is wider than the 5.0.

thanks for the info on the headers... do you know what kind of HP and TQ numbers i'll get with these upgrades, just curious. I think the base line is 210hp and 28?ft/lbs TQ right? I was thinkin with the upgrades 230-240hp and around 290-300ft/lbs torque...

In '96 a stock 5.8 was rated 210hp@3600rpm and 325TQ@2800rpm. The cam and heads will produce something that looks similar to the graph below, in the neighborhood 280hp@4500rpm and 390TQ from about 2000-4000rpm.

not to highjack but I have the same year engine out of the same truck and want to do a cam upgrade and exhaust, put it in my truck converting it to mass air and OBD II. What cam would you suggest?

With mass air you can use a more agressive cam but it depends what your goals are.

Yes need gears first, 4.10's will be a good overall ratio, then select the Comp 35-510-8 and longtube headers for more low end TQ. If you also get GT40 heads the TQ peak will be even higher than the graph above.

So what all did you end up doing to this motor? And about how much did it all cost. Im getting into a cam and GT40 heads this summer when I pull my motor out, and was looking at a ballpark price. That motor looks sweet btw
