Need Info On Engine Computer Chip
Can anyone out there help me? I have a 51 f1 flathead v8.
I have a question for you guys i know that you are right
on top of just about everything,so here goes.I also own a
2000 jeep grand cherokee loradeo & a 2001 chevy silverado.
the jeep has a 4.7 all wheel drive & the chevy is a 4.8.
My question is has anyone used a computer chip before?
What are the benefits? Is it worth it? What is the price?
What brand is a good one? I will send some pictures
of my 51 as soon as my wife learns how to post them.
Thanks a lot guys & have a MERRY CHRISTMAS. Bob

KEITH--computer chip
Keith,
Thank you for trying to help me.
I have a 51 ford f1 with a flathead v8.(for now)
I know that the flathead does not take a chip.
I was hoping to find some info on the chips
for my 2000 jeep 4.7 & my 2001 chevy 4.8
I hope that i am not getting anyone upset
with these questions.Everyone here is a
great bunch of guys & they always try to
help you out as much as possible.I also know
that a lot of guys here have other makes of cars
not just fords.I just thought that as long as i
owned an old ford truck that maybe someone
might be able to help me.I want to wish
everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS. THANKS Bob

a chip usually changes the engine parameters (fuel tables, timing ect) manufacturers always set these parameters to a safety zone if you would call it that!, they have to meet emmisions, and are set to the lower side due to warranty issues, i`ve got a superchip on my 03 ram with a 4.7 and it does make a difference in fuel and power, i really notice it when pulling my big inclosed trailer, also it has a built in code reader so its great when trying to identify problems.

If those television shows that show annoying guys bolting on expensive parts from advertisers aren't lying to us, those chips can make a big difference. But they'll be most effective when combined with other engine mods (intake, exhaust, cam). For specific advice, there must be other forums dedicated to Jeep and GM products.
You could put fuel injection on a flathead using an aftermarket system, or build up your own using a Megasquirt setup. (You can buy the brain as a kit, or assembled, then the injectors and sensors are all standard auto parts.)

I think that right now i will just leave
the old flathead in there for right now.
I have a 302 with a C 4 that i took out
of my 53 merc convertible under my work bench
that i might put in my f1 later. As far as the
jeep & the chevy goes,i think that i will
just leave them alone.Thans for all the input. Bob

I had one in my 94 S-10 SS and my 95 Mustang GT convertible. I ended up taking both of them out after Katrina due to the price of gas going up so much; the chips required Supreme gas. They're both sitting on a shelf and with gas being cheap now, I'm still not tempted to put them back in. In other words, there wasn't enough of a performance improvement(if any) to justify putting them back in. I'd spend my money on something else!
