78fordf150ranger is starting off with a positive reputation.
perkins turbo diesel smokes real bad.

okay i have a 79 f250 supercab with a old perkins 6cyl turbo diesel swapt in and the turbo went and now it smokes realy realy bad,soo bad that people won't fallow with in 45feet of me,and it pours oil out the tail pipe,
But it starts fine runs great.

what would cause this and how would i fix it

sounds like you need a new turbo

Could be the turbo, or you have a major injector pump problem, but not very likely. Pull the tubes off the turbo, and check for oil stains.

You said the turbo went. Did you replace it? If so was it a used one? Sounds like you got a bad one.

mistakenID is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
If you replaced the turbo and it's still smoking, it's likely the exhaust is full of oil from the turbo seals dumping oil into the back half.

It will take a while with some hot exhaust temps before it's burned away.

If the turbo is junk and you have done nothing with it.......wellllllllll! nuff said
