Thanks,

the pac-swi jack is what you need to keep your steering wheel controls with a new headunit. you connect a wire from the steering wheel control to the pac module and then connect that to the remote input on the headunit. ford is very easy compared to some other brands for keeping steering wheel controls.

i dont know why it would be obsolete. the pac gets programmed to change your steering wheel inputs into something the headunit can understand.

I've been eyeballing the dnx5120 and dnx7120 for my 07.

As for the Pioneer vs Kenwood.....I have a Pioneer on my 01 and hate it, but have a lot of friends with Kenwoods and I like them better. As mentioned the Garmin software is very nice and easy to use.

Kenwood and Alpine are my personal preferences for head units.
i dont know the differences between the two but im very happy with my dnx7100. i just noticed that it doesnt have the ***** on the side and the screen comes down to put in a disc. this makes the screen a little bigger but thats about it. im sure some random tech specs are different.

7120 includes the remote (although you can purchase it extra for the 5120), 7120 has relay controls for garage doors/lighting/etc, 7120 has more preouts and has voice guidance according to Kenwood's site.

Product Comparison

i figured it would have more power and preouts. the voices are funny when they mispronounce or mess up abbreviations. i havent figured out any good uses for the relays yet though. any ideas?

crutchfield says the 7120 is discontinued. theres the dnx8120 and ebay though.

Got me on uses for the relays.

Really about the only thing the 5120 doesn't have compared to the 7120 or 8120 that I would like is the voice commands.

Edit....although now that I look at Kenwood's site and compare it doesn't list voice guidance with the 8120

Hey Pete,

When you have it all hooked up let me know if the GPS gives the voice commands for the turn by turn directions.
Thanks.

I was looking on ebay....looks like the ddx812 + Nav+ Backup camera is cheaper than the dnx8120 so that may be another option.....hmmm.....
And the ddx812 and dnx8120 have the bluetooth built in with no need for the adapter.

Decisions, decisions.

yes it does. and you can have volume all way down on the radio and you it still at normal volume, if you cranking your stereo up it will mute music and voice is heard loud and clear.... so far i like it....
i was looking on DNX8120 but the diference was so little in a quality that 500$ more i can find more stuff to spend on....
unless you have money to burn 5120 is a god as you going t need. most people use amps to run speakers, so power output its nothing to me, no matter how much power head unit says its putting out, any amplifier with the same output will kill it. so thise are integrated amplifiers in the HU and dont put out good quality compared to any separate amp which uses transistors fro the power.

let me know if i can help you with anything ealse DC

thanks

Peter

Hey Peter,

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I've been adding up the 5120+bluetooth+ backup camera ($650) compared to the 8120 ($1000 +) or the ddx812+nav+camera at ($950).

I should just do the 5120 combo
