Running a Dually with SRW in winter
I dont know if anyone has done this, tried this, or ever even thought about it,,, but I was wondering about the possibility of running my dually with SRW for the snow driving winter months.
My thought was to run a set of SRW F350 rear rims on my Dually.
I dont tow or haul anything in the winter months (I have the truck for my race car trailer) in the winter months its basically just a parts hauler.
This has a couple perceived benefits for me:
1) It gets my alloys off for the winter months
2) F350 SRW takeoff wheels are MUCH easier to find than spare dually wheels.
I have been to every junkyard in my area, searched online for hours on end and cant find a simple set of used steel dually wheels to mount my snows on. I tried Craigs list, Ebay, Google, everywhere.
3) It might help get rid of the dreaded "dually float" in the snow.
I tried searching and its such a random idea that I couldn't even come up with a phrase to search that worked.
Anyone ever do this, or even try it?
Thanks in advance

i suspect the rear brakes might be prone to trying to lockup since the system is valved for the rotating mass of dual wheels..
running a single rear wheel might give teh trucks ABS a real workout, hahah..
i guess u could try it on a rural road with no traffic around and see how it performs at slow speed, then try faster n faster..
gunna look realy funny having a single wheel in that dualy fender thou...

Thanks Guys.
The answers pretty much echoed my thoughts.
I didnt think there would be much traffic on this subject as I'm sure its not that common.
This year I already have my snows mounted on the 4 Dually rears.
Next year I think I will get a pair of F350 SRW wheels for the rear and mount them on those, and take the other two and mount them on the front on a set of steelies (which I still have to track down)...
I have to dismount it all anyway as they are studded, so I cant run them past April in PA.
Thanks for the help.
Cheers

I would not be trying SRW wheels on the front, I know I couldn't do that.
It would set them way too far out.
Well, if I did want to attempt that, I know I would have to remove the dually hub spacer, which might not be a bad idea.
I dont know whats involved in removing that spacer.
I'm mainly concerned about the rear.
I would still want to find two dually steel wheels for the front for the winter to get my alloys off (which may be easier than finding 4 or 6 which I am presently having a tough time doing.
Thanks for the input.

They actually have a web site that you can search the parts they have inventoried. The EZ Pull lot isnt inventoried though, you gotta go and look on your own. Joe's Used Auto Parts
Theres also another guy, Collis Truck Parts, located north of Northampton. He deals strictly with trucks. His # is 610 837 1232. They know what they have in stock.
