replacement of ball joints on '93 F150 4x4

This is probably too fundamental question for this forum, but to replace the ball joints (upper and lower) on my F150, is it necessary to utilize a pickle-fork to release the tapers from the assembly?
Thank you for your patience in answering my question.

Ron

replacement of ball joints on '93 F150 4x4

Thank you for the website url. Looks like not much more than the combination of drive universal joint replacement coupled with standard ball joint r&r. Thanks again and will be reporting on progress after Saturday's work.
