The Coconino forest is in the process of seasonal road closures and closing gates this week. If there are still open gates this weekend you may be good to go. However venturing out on forest roads that have gates that are not closed during the week might be an invitation to get locked in. Not a good thing for playing and not being able to get home with out a hassle.
It's really warm today and that snow is getting real soft so make sure you have your chains, shovel and all the survival gear to take you at least through a night if you get stuck. Tell someone where you are going and when you intend to return. Have that safety net.
It is good to remember that if you go in during the morning on hard snow and it gets soft. You can wait until night when it freezes to get back on top of it and make your way out. I speak from experience on that one. Nothing is worse than trying to dig your way out for a distance only to be able to get back up on it later.
Another thing is that if you are stranded, those nice folks in the green trucks will not pull you out but most likely will be willing to assist you in getting a tow bill or a ticket for resource damage if you have been having too much fun. Tread lightly, have fun and be safe!
