First and Foremost welcome to FTE!!
Not familiar with the 61-64 engine swaps; as with the 65-66, converting to a V8 is usually not as labor intensive. Ran a cursory search and came up with a couple of links on the subject, may want to run another search and suggest narrow field to the 61-66 forum. Likely a more knowledgeable member with the swap will be able to provide more info, again welcome to FTE.

As it is your truck you can put whatever you want in it.
aftermarket cross members are available for 34" wide frames in many variety of flavors and tastes. From SBC/BBC to most any ford engine series made.
An engine swap requires removal of the bell housing cross member and if it stock was a 292 the front frame mount. 223 six needs no mods as the bracket is not there.
Additionally you will need to add a transmission cross member on the flavor of transmission you want.

The 223 six does not have the front bracket that the 292 used. So yes one less thing to remove.
Just remember the 64 has the engine offset to the passenger side so when placing a new mill and transmission match what was stock it will save some aggravation down the line in vibration.
