Thinking about a gen1 lightning

Well lately ive been thinking about selling my 86 and getting a 1st gen lightning. I want something more reliable then my 86 so I can go places and not have to worry about anything. Even though my truck runs great and hasn't ever left me stranded. I was planning on putting a 351w in my truck but the more I think about it the more it would be better to buy a lightning insead of dumping more money into my truck. I was looking on craigslist and found a 94 Lightning today. Looks like its in great condition.
I work about a mile away so I wouldnt put many miles on it.
If I did get it I would have to put a roll pan on it ASAP and swap my stereo from my 86 into it.

What are yalls thoughts about this truck?
94 Ford Lightning

Thanks

I am a bit biased, but Gen. 1 Lightnings are awesome trucks. They can still carry a decent payload, they run good on regular unleaded and most insurance companies do not rate them as high performance vehicles so the premiums are not outrageous. I am on my second Gen. 1 L. The first was crushed by a tree, the current one has been my "girlfriend in the garage"!

Edited, please use PMs for that part of your post. Thanks.

Randy

Nice truck. Alittle to far away from me though. Seems like the stock gen 1s sell for about $5500-$6500.

that red one seems like an okay deal. $6,500 seems a bit steep to me for anything almost 15yrs old...but it is a Lightning though

btw, that headliner in the 86 is awesome

Yea, a roll pan would make a world of difference on that red one. Let us know what you decide?

I personally love the gen 1 lightnings. However, they are scarce and rusty up here near northern PA. I already have two trucks that I don't drive in the winter because i have too much money and body work in them for them to start rusting, otherwise I would seriously be on the lookout for a gen 1 lightning. The red ones are my favorite. good luck.

Looks like a nice choice. Not alot around with milage that low. Loose the bed rails and exhaust tubes. If you put on the roll pan the tube bumper should pay for the rool pan.
I own a red and black 94. Red brick is anything but stock. Track tossed us last weekend for no cage so it's getting it as we speak. 11.01 @ 123.8
I'd start at $5,000.00 and work from there.
Good luck.
Oh and as any lightning owner can tell you it is an addiction. Buy the truck and the mod bug is not far behind.

Everything you said (bed rails, exhaust, and roll pan) is exactly what I would do. I just got the VIN # and im going to have someone run me a carfax and if its clean Im going to setup a day I can go look at it. If all checks out good ill get it.
