wiingnut is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
I've always been a true blue Ford guy. Forth generation to employed by FMC, and proud of it. I've always owned Fords, but driven all three. The other two domestics as work vehicles.

I like the Dodge looks wise, Cummins is a nice engine. Would I purchase one, absolutely not. Junk! In my opinion. Chevy's in my opinion, better than Dodge. I will say I would buy a Chevy or Dodge if I was employed by them. You don't bite the hand that feeds ya!

I would own a Ford if I worked @ no other auto maker. I won't give a guy too much garbage if it's a domestic. If it's an import, I'll let you have it.

Don't try to make the parts made in America percentage arguement w/me. I live it everyday and I'm disgusted w/it.

Bottom line, foreign profits go overseas. I'm outta here! Out of a Job Yet! Keep buying foreign!

Honestly the Cummins is a great engine. But everything around the engine is horrible. All my family has is Fords. We have an old 78 Ford with an inline 6. A 98 Taurus with 250,000 miles on it and still running. A 98 Sable with 150,000 still running great. And my 98 Explorer with 171,000 on it and runs like a horse. I'll never buy anything but a Ford. I have always owned GM vehicles. When I started a construction company it was me and my truck, a Sierrs 3/4 ton. Now I have bigger needs such as larger loads and larger trailers/equipment. I am in the market for a new truck and have been looking at nothing except the spec sheets. It is clear that the Ford trucks are far superior in all categories for getting stuff moved. It also doesn't hurt that the price is much better too.

The Dodge 1/2 ton with the big 5.7 hemi had a meager 8500# conventional tow rating. TO get the 09 Dodge to a 11k# GVW you needed to go to a reg cab dually 1ton. The Dodge web site sucks for finding info, and I couldn't bring myself to visit a dealer (just feels dirty). The Titan only has 1100# payload. Add me at 250# and my dog at 140# and whats left? Enough for a fat wife and a couple big macs. The Tundra has under 1400# payload. I know these are not 3/4 or 1 ton (nor do they even make one), but with these capabilites alot of these trucks are for oil execs to look cool and thats it. The Ford I will be buying is the F-350 Crew with the V-10 and the 4.30 rear. It is rated for 16,100# 5th wheel. To match that with a GM you need the 1ton dually with the diesel motor. Heres the catch, the 4x4 model is only rated for 15,900 you need the 2wd to bust 16k#. (crew cab and 09 model for comparison) That truck has a MSRP way way higher than the Ford. Besides, who will be around to back their warranty? I'm betting on Ford. I have totally turned and have never owned a Ford (yet). The numbers matter when you need power at a reasonable cost.

Besides, from my experience all GM's are like a carton of milk. They have an expiry date.

An F-250 with the little 300 I6 is rated for more than 11,000 lbs I believe.

Powerplants mean nothing in tow ratings. A F-250 with a 6 cylinder has a higher GVW than ANY 1/2 ton.

It's all in the gearing.

Do you own a Ford at all? I see you have two Dodge's listed in your sig but no FoMoCo product.

Just got rid of an '07 F350 6.0 auto because it was the biggest hunk of crap ive ever driven. Traded my '03 F250 V10 auto because it was getting to many miles/rattles and I got a hell of a deal on my 2500. Sold my '84 F150 truck to a local high school kid who needed some wheels worse than I did. I've driven ALOT of trucks over the last 16 years and have driven quite a few Fords, only been unsatisfied with two of them. Driven quite a few Dodges and had fantastic luck with all of them, driven on Chevy and had bad luck with it. I have had plenty of experience to throw out a few opinions on Fords and their counterparts.

I almost find it hard to believe that someone has owned 'many' Fords but has had problems with nearly all of them. But has had excellent luck with Dodges? Yeah right...

I've worked in a shop that my dad owned for over 5 years... lemme tell ya. I saw a lot of the same old same old problems come in. Many GM's and quite a few Chryslers. Ford is reliable. And their trucks can't be beaten. Now.. that's not to say they haven't had their problems. Every company has, BUT Ford has the least. And the old Fords of the 90's and earlier are just solid proven reliability. Had a lot of domestic vehicles in my home, and owned a lot. Before I knew much about vehicles, I wanted the fastest. Lemme tell ya, Ford usually did not offer the fastest ANYTHING. So, I went with GM. Yeah, I learned fast that GM's can not take abuse. My 95 Firebird... smoking in under a year, yea I hot rodded it. My mom's 2000 Trans Am LS1, problems with power steering pumps (4th one in 2 years), transmission (6-speed), rear main, she's had 2 clutches put in, and other little things that she quit telling me about because I told her that Pontiac was a piece of **** and to sell it and get a new Mustang.

Also a 2000 Buick Park Avenue 3.8 that is leaking oil out the front with only 55,000 miles. Oil changes every 3000 miles. Also the transmission pump is whining. Had a 1997 Lumina that the transmission died 3 times while I had it. No lie. A 1999 Pontiac Grand Am with the 3.4. The 3.4 started leaking coolant, and the transmission started heading south.

Then I got a Ford Thunderbird 4.6 HO with the 4R70W. Plugs, wires, MAF, and transmission service, and I drove the HELL out of it for over a year with absolutely no problems. And I would bark 2nd gear multiple times EVERY DAY. It never let up or gave signs it wanted to. NEVER. Then a dumb ass totaled me.

So I got my current truck. Had it for well over a year, put a lot of hellacious miles on it, and done some bad stuff off road. Not a single problem. Not smoking. I love it. Then I started noticing... my papaw had always driven Ford's. He was a smart man. Very smart. We still have a 1950 Ford 8N, had a 70's Ford 2000 tractor, he had a 1966 Ford f100 (I think), and owned a few other Ford cars. Probably a reason behind that.

But, yeah, this is a Ford site, I'm here for a reason, and it's here for a reason. For people like me, who have learned the hard way and want to come here and talk about Ford's reliability. People like me who have to hear about how fast the Trans Ams were compared to the Mustangs in the 90's and first of the 2000's. Peope like me who have to hear about how much horsepower the new GM and Dodge trucks have compared to the same old same old Ford keeps putting out.

But, people like me know that trucks aren't for racing. And speed is only fun if it gets you home. Well, the only vehicles that have never failed on me, and I mean nothing about anything, are Fords. And maybe I can get my mamaw to trade her Buick in before something goes wrong (I know something will... GM makes ****ty autos and it has the 3.8). And maybe my mom will finally learn to quit putting thousands (literally well over $6000 in the last 2 years) into a POS GM and just get a reliable Ford.

From a guy who hated Fords because all his friends did going through school.

i have owned and driven just about everything at one time or another.
yes Chevy's were great cars, because there were millions of them in the junk yards, so parts were plentiful, and cheap.
the old 50's Pontiac's and the Packards and Hudson's were great cars, and held up almost as good as the fords too.

but without a doubt, the best vehicle made in the past 30 years is a ford. they just plain outlast all others. the GM vehicles of the 70's and 80's were a pathetic joke. you could actually watch them rusting. the early 70's full size Plymouth's were tough as nails until they stopped making the big blocks.
the only fords i ever had a problem with are powered by the 6.0 and 6.4 diesels. those two engines are the biggest mistakes ever made.
