as far as trucks go fords are by far the best, i live in a town where almost everyone has a chevy or a dodge in their garage and thats all they talk about is how great they are, but in there driveways half rusted apart and showing half a million miles on the cluster is the work truck. ya know the one that makes all the money, the one that payed to fix the chevy or dodge the other week when the tranny broke, ya know the one that makes the 50 mile trip up the mautain 6 days a week loaded to the top of the cab with contractor gear, ya know the one that always get you home even thou it dont look like it should...ya that truck, everybody in my town has one of those too. they call them the p.o.s work truck........everytime someone gives me a lip, talkin bad about my fords i just tell them to look at the emblam on the fender of the truck that gets you to work tomarrow, not the one in your garage on jackstands.... everyone nows how good a ford truck is, it's just some people are to stuppid to admit it and would rather look dum sitting stuck in a feild or broke down alonside the road than admitt they're wrong and drive a ford...........i know i wont have that problem, between me and my old man we've had plenty of fords. some with insane amounts of miles, but not one of them would i call junk.......................thanks
That was reminicent of another users post who defiantly maintains that nothing else is worth driving(If I remember correctly he said people who drive "others" aren't "real men") but the fact of the matter is that for every Ford driver who swears by them and has had nothing but good luck with them and one or two bad expirences with Dodge and Chevy, there are equally many Dodge drivers and Chevy owners who swear by their trucks and have sour memories of the Fords they've owned. I know its a Ford forum, but it does say "enthusiasts" in the title, and while most of us are here because we appreciate Ford trucks and the wealth of knowledge in these forums, I will defiantly maintain that they aren't in fact without fault and that some of us appreciate the more knowledgable members of this forum who offer good advice while accepting the fact that for a daily driver or for something fun, some of this sites users simply want something that FoMoCo may not offer. To those of you who are relentlessly brand loyal; good for you, you've found everything you want in a Ford truck(or Dodge or Chevy) and thats great. For those of you who are relentlessly brand loyal and insist on berating others for not chosing all Ford(or Dodge or Chevy, you know who you are), I'm sorry for your narrow-mindedness.

I have owned 2 E40D trannys - one is sitting in a 1993 F150 that I scrapped at 380,000km, and the original tranny was still working perfectly. The other is in my 1994 F150 SC with 395,000km that I'm still using, and the tranny works perfectly. Luck of the draw I guess.
the E40D, and AOD transmissions are very good if properly maintained.
but if you don't do the trans service every 30-35k miles like ford recommends, you are gonna have problems.
and one of the biggest POS vehicles i have ever owned was an 86 F250HD 4X4.
i walked into the dealership, cash in pocket, and told them i wanted the red and white diesel out there.
someone else beat me to it by 5 minutes, so i bought the only other F250 on the lot.
the computer took a crap at 700 miles. at 1500 miles it died again. at 2000 miles the 4 speed trans broke. at 5000 miles the 302 ate a piston. at 10k miles the shifter broke. at 15k miles the transfer case went.at 18k miles and 18 months of ownership, the truck shut off on me driving down the interstate. i rolled down an exit ramp off the highway, and into a ford dealer. they looked at it, and said both cats were bad. i looked out at a white superduty 4X4 conversion pickup that was ordered and not picked up, and asked the dealer how much?
they said $19,700 and we will give you $11,000 on trade in for the 86. now i only paid $9200 for the 86 18 months before, so it was a no brainer to get rid of that pos.
as a side note, the guy that bought the 86 put 3 more engines into it before he ended up trading it in 5 years later. ford could not sell it, and it finally went to auction, where it did not sell and was eventually junked with less than 60,000 miles on it.

therifleman556 That was the reason for my thread actually. I cant stand the haters. Two of my favoruite trucks I have ever owner were a 1986 GMC stepside and a 1964 GMC stepside. I loved these trucks. Had some problems with them but they were good trucks. I am actually still young 33. But on a ford note, my 1964 ford f-100 was wayyy better built then the gmc. It just seemed like it was a tank in comparrison. But I still loved them all. But over the years I became more brand loyal. I got rid of the 64 GMC just because I didnt like it as much as my ford. But its all personal preference. Every brand is gonna have some pos.
I agree, haters suck-regardless of the brand they hate. The town I grew up in was kinda split Ford/Chevy, and the chev owners were always on Fords case. Where I live now is probably 70% Chevy,25% Ford and maybe 5% Dodge and I'm always getting crap about my Dodge. Just a couple of weeks ago when it was -25 at night I kept getting "I'm surprised that Dodge starts in this weather!" I guess who you live around has alot to do with it. It just so happens that everyone where I live hates Dodge and Ford. Even in high school the Chevy guys seem like suck pricks. Maybe its just the bad guys we remember so much that makes us bitter towards those who are other than Ford loyal(not that I'm 100% loyal, its just seemed like the sentiment of your original post)

i was'nt always such a hatter but bad experiances and time have made me a little bitter when it comes to anything not ford.. i got like this becouse i've had chevys and dodges and they all were bad to me. they broke all the time and left me sit. however my ford always treat me good and never leave me sit, i'm not sayin they hav'nt broke becouse they do, everything brakes. it's just when they brake it's always somthin simple and they always get me home. not to mention i have a 89 bronco with almost 300,000 miles on it and it stil has its origional engine and rears. i did smoke the trannny not long ago but that was becouse i did'nt keep it maintained, now i converted it to a five speed so i wont have that problem again. my old man used to have an 86 f-150 4x4 with a 300-6 and a 4 speed.. that truck was all origional when he got it from it's second owner over 300,000 miles on it and we could'nt brake it, even thou we tried. we never maintained it and used it to plow snow, haul logs and pull stumps and it never quite. we finally sold it to my cousan and he still uses it to plow snow every year..... and i know of lots more with even more hard earned miles on them.... there is a few, but not many dodge or chevy owners can say that they have that many hard miles on them. highway miles dont count, the miles i'm takin about were spent in a feild or on a back road bein used like truck should be...................thanks
At the shop my dad worked for there was a early '90's ish Chevy longbox that had somethin like 340,000 miles on it. It was use for eveything from taking garbage to the dump to hauling small parts deliveries(in pallets in the bed, the pallets usually weighed 1000lbs or more). My dads F-350 just burnt up its second E4OD in 130K. Everyones got the good and the bad, some people get lucky enough to have all good luck with one brand and some have nothing but poor expirence with the same. What gets really annoying is how this Chevy guy I know will use everything you say as a tactical advantage when it comes to the VS arguement. If you got a high mileage Ford he says its cause it wasn't worked very hard or had a lot of smaller stuff done constantly, If your Ford quits earlier than you know it should WATCH OUT! Hes on your case forever and theres no living it down. If his Chevy blows up(and it has) its cause he worked it harder than it was meant to or 'cause of all them burnouts he does 'cause his '97 350 "was the most powerful 350 they made cause of the multi port injection" He just goes on and on and can't see how much money hes already lost in it (front and rear axles, two transmissions on 160K) but dont bother telling him that. Those are the people that annoy me.

well i geuss i'm one of those guys that was just ment to have a ford, but at the end of the day i dont care if you drive a chevy, dodge or a ford aslong as its amarican thats all that realy matters, the brand name is just a preferance......i mean that gets me mader than anything when i see people who go to a dealer on amarican soil and buy a japanese car with amaican bills, sometimes when i see them people, i just want to blame them personaly for the condition of the big 3. thats somthing i wont change my mind on or even try to agree with somone over.... i remember the first time i saw film from pearl harber and read about it in a text book and i have known ww2 vets that fought to save this country...thats stuff burned into my mind.
I was posting on a turbo-related message board just trying to get some info about turbo stuff for my truck. I think the board was predominantly Honda toolbags.
Anyway at one point somebody said something about my engine being "fragile" and said "It's a Ford right?"
Course then somebody corrected him that it's an international...

rifleman: you are exactly right. Its the people who constantly nag on me about having a ford that are the problem. I wonder if its "cool" to hate fords or something. When i was 16 and looking for my first truck, I didnt care what it was as long as it was american. Then i fell in love in with a short box 4x4 and have been a ford man ever since. I love how the chevy people had no response when i said i had the 300 6. A good truck is a good truck, unless its a toyota

hell people talk **** about fords until that person is being towed by a ford or they see a ford pulling a heavy load without a problem.

where i live, the truck to have changes every few years... in the late 90's fords where it. everyone had to have a 73-79 ford truck, they where allover. then that got old and everyone bougt chevy's, then a few years after that it happened.. everyone one started fixing these junk dodges, including me. ya even i had a few, but then i wised up and junked them all.......but i've noticed a growing number of fords on the road and i'm gettin just as many people who like my old ford as hate it. where as before it was about 80% haters and 20% likers now its about 50/50........ i'm hopin this aint a fluke, im ready for another ford boom.
