Anybody know what transfer case will bolt onto my ZF transmission?

Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong but I think about any fullsized ford transfercase. Most ford transfercases use the same pattern on the adapter housing and splines on the output shaft of the trans. Unless theres some year splits I am not aware of. You can even put an automatic xcase were manual was and vise versa as long as the trannys are both 4wd. The shifting linkage will cause you some trouble though. I have put np 205s in 92-96 body style and fabbed up some linkage using bits and pieces off of different years of trucks. Not sure about the newer super duty xcase, have had a couple split but never paid attention to the pattern or splines.

Thanks. Any opinions on what xcase might be stronger and more reliable? What do you think a fair price would be for used?

I would look for a gear driven case for strength...the chain driven tend to have problems. I think it is the np205 is one thats gear driven....there are so many adapters out there you could do just about any case you want. Cases can go from 75 on up depending what you get

A gear driven 205 out of a late 70 is a good one. Although the all the borg warner units I have had have been pretty reliable. What you need to watch out for is the style of yoke. Some are fixed some are slip style, just depends on what style of driveshaft you need.

A np205 is the best choice, but make sure you do some hw on it because there are several different choices on spline count(the more splines the stronger). as far as i know all 205 cases are fixed yokes. Not sure if your truck is 2 or 4wd but is it 2wd you might want to look into a divorced case, this way you dont have to source a new tail housing. just my thoughts on the last part.

IMO don't go with a gear drive t-case simply for the fact that they never came stock on these trucks. Get a stock t-case. A chain drive case last a LONG time on a street driven truck. I know the BW 1356 is one and I think the other is 4407, Maybe!

I would like to go with the stock set up to make the install easy but how well will the BW1356 or 4407 hold up to stage two injectors?

I have seen 1000+hp ran through the BW's.

The T-cases don't seem to care about HP upgrades. Given em what you got. They have held lots more power in other trucks than stage 2's.

The truck is 2wd. I just found out that you cant just get a tail housing. That was my plan. The main shaft for the 2wd is shorter that the 4wd ZF So a divorced case may be the way to go. Not sure how to do it so any info on that would help.

Thanks

You basically run a short drive shaft from the trans to TC....fab up a couple cross members to mount the TC and get some drive shafts made. There are a lot of companies that make cable linkage with a shifter so you could custom mount your TC shifter just about anywhere. You can even get a divirced unit with a pto if you ever want to add a winch, generator ect. I think the pto's on the divorced TC is nicer because you have more room with the trans not being right there
