6.4 High Pressure Fuel Pump (truck still sitting outside dealership) 1 month now

I have posted about this about a month ago. As for now my truck is still sitting outside the dealership here in Hobbs NM. My fuel pump went out as I said and all the dealerships within 100 miles are all backed up 2 weeks. I now have Ford corp. involved this is the second time I have had the pleasure to be talking to them about how sorry they are for the problems. I may get an extended warranty for my troubles how that for service. ha ha it is better than nothing at all I guess. What do any of you think please commit!!!!

30 days at a dealer in IL (during the first year) is lemon law time.

A month for a fuel pump means that the dealer is a "lemon"

yes...another dealer is in order if possible. I had gotten a extended warranty from ford for my 06 F250 when I had it. It had a sound in the steering, sounded like a dry bushing. turned out to be the worm.

Hope they gave you a loaner truck

my dealer bought back a couple 6.0's when they were first released because they sat broken down for over a month.

You're doing good.....it took my dealer 3 weeks just to determine it was the pump. Then a couple more to fix it.

Three weeks sounds about right. The last time I took my truck in I told them the high pres pump was out. A week later they called and told me the high pres pump was out, two weeks after that they had it done. I have had a total of four pumps in my truck, each took about three weeks. The first time it took almost four. They replace the original after 10 days of scratching there heads, along with fuel rail, and injectors and the truck still wouldn't start. They then ordered a new third one because the second one was bad from the factory. I just got my truck back last week from a three week rest for my fourth one. I own a 08 F450 crew, as much as I love the truck, this is my last ford. I bought two Dodge 4500s in the last few weeks, not sure if this is the right move but I feel having a new (08) truck with aprox 38000 miles should not have to be in the shop a total of 11 weeks since I have owned it. It leaves me on the side of the road about every third month.

My dad just came across this problem yesterday in his 6.4 with 17,000 miles, they said that it was fuel gelling up and him being a diesel mechanic said no its the high pressure fuel pump. They called him later in the day and said your high pressure fuel pump is shot "no chit". They said they have to pull the cab off for this fix? Wow that sucks but they also said it will be done in a week we will see.

LOL

I've always found it funny (and sad) that Ford's customers are sometimes smarter than their mechs and service writers.....

That's why if I can, I'll either fix it myself or take it to a diesel performance shop. Quicker turnaround and much better service, it's a shame they can't do Ford warranty work......

Is it true that the cab has to be pulled off to replace the pump?

how do you know when the pump is going out, i think mine is going out, ill be driving it and have to slow down for a slower speed limit like from 60 to 40 then once its time to accelerate to 60 once again it will go to about 50 or so then it acts like it hit a wall sit at 50 for a few seconds then bam like rockets fired off, back to 60 i go, kinda annoying.

no modifications to the pump. It will throw a code if it is the problem.
