dan at valair is workin on makin the clutches quieter, the zf is a real good transmission just a diesel makes alot of noise resonate through the transmission. i put an ati balancer on my truck and mine and the rollover got quieter. is your valair one of the 3 spring or 6 spring clutches?

158 K miles on My DMF. The TO bearing is starting to make noise, but the clutch works fine.

That's a perfectly acceptable service life, IMO.

YAY!!!!!! DUAL DISC!!!! LoL. my Valair Kevlar/Ceramic makes some noise. it used to be REALLY loud, but now that i have a few thousand miles on the clutch it has gotten a lot better. you can barely hear it anymore. i called Dan about it and he told me to add an extra quart of fluid to it so that's what i did. once the clutch gets more broke in and the hub of the clutch loosens a little it should get better. Dan also said he has seen some trucks that the noise never does go away. try the extra fluid..

Well I don't know 3 or 6 springs, Dan at Valaire choose the clutch I needed based on it being a Dumpbody , trailer towing , snow plowing work truck....... Seems to be intermittant at times just LOUD then real normal for about 30 seconds then LOUD again,,,,,,,, hope its ok......

What about that ati balancer , how much and is it an easy intall? got a pic?

well i be dad gum i had the same dad gum thing happen last week. first thing i thought was now That's tranny noise! pulled the clutch back out could not find a dad gum thing wrong. called napa, it's a precision sold by napa button clutch. anyways mark at napa says "well i be dad gum!, never had that happen!" . so he ordered me Another clutch from the same company only this was little different with the clutch design. so, stuck it not the same noise and not AS noisy but still raises hell. been driving it a week now and i be dad gum i think it was getting a little quieter today .!
gonna try some lucas in the trans and overfill it like Neal said.
let you know what happpens.

I just installed my Valaire. I only have 50 miles on it today. It is loud. I work swing shift and come home around midnight. I came through the neighborhood thinking I'm gonna wake everyone up. I expected noise, but not this much. I'll try the added fluid for the tranny. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will be low adding to the noise. I hope it gets quieter when broken in...I saw Castrol Mercon V at the store. Is this the best thing to fill the tranny with?

I put my valair in year and a half ago. It never got any quieter until I put more oil in the tranny. It's still pretty noisy at idle, but a LOT better.

Today I topped up the tranny. It was low and I overfilled by 1 qt. The noise didn't bother me as much today. I notice I'm changing driving style to avoid the really noisy spot. The clutch is starting to smooth out on engagement now. This setup really transmits the engine noise. I wonder if balancing the flywheel with pressure plate would improve the general running noise.
