We had a flat tire on a trip and had replaced but they could not get the warning light on the dash to go away. Is there a way to turn the light off?

 

Is the PSI correct on the replaced tire? If so it should reset itself after a few miles. If not, the sensor may have gotten damaged. Check the psi on all of the tires.

No, you don't need to buy anything. If your car is under warranty take it to the dealer once you have confirmed all the tires have correct psi. It should reset itself.

 

thank all, i called the dealer and he said it would a 50$ just to look at it but the work would be free. i was just wishing it was a easy fix.

You have 3,000 miles more until your warranty expires. Do not pay for a diagnoses. Diagnosing and repairs under warranty cost zero. Find another dealer. It's a no brainer.

 

If anybody wants to know, the warranty covers the sensor as a whole, not as pieces. There is a unique way to remove the tire from the rim. If you don't know this you will destroy the sensor and will not be covered under warranty.
and the spare tire does not have the sensor in the tire ether.

 

I was surfing the truck accessories sites a while back and saw and ad for tire sensors that did not require a band. It was all apparently inner part of the stem. Wondered if it causes any balancing problems and lots of offsetting weights. Dont know if it was for fords or not, guess I better try to find it again.

 

Well any good tire shop or mechanic knows that almost all of the newer cars have these and they shouldn't be damaging them. If they do, they should pay for a new one.

 

the tpms Ford is using is crap compared to the rental cars I have used (Honda Civic and Chevy Cobalt). On those two cars you can toggle through all the different monitors (temp, oil life, etc) and it shows the psi for each individual tire. On my 08 Expy, unless I am missing something, I cant find it anywhere. Of course when I got a Tire pressure monitor error, I had to call the dealer and they asked if the tire pressure is ok, then they said it just needed to be reset. My first question is, what caused the error? unknown. I think they could have come up with a better system.

 

The reset tool comes with the '08 F-150. I had to point out to the dealer where in the manual it stated that it was to be with the vehicle. Check your owners manual in the section concerning the TPMS as to whether it should have been with yours. Pics of the tool;
