Lightbulb mustang 4.6 in a f150?

I was wondering if it would be completely worthless to swap a 4.6 mustang engine for my tired 4.6.......I have a 01 f150 2wd and im simply looking for horsepower, i know that mustangs 4.6 has major potential and the modular doesnt, i was also wondering if the wiring would be close to the the same and i could just swap ecu's. And no, i dont want the 5.4 never liked em.......If someone could help me out that would be great

youre looking for horsepower, but you dont like displacement? you dont like 5.4s?

are you looking at a 2v or 4v? PI or non PI?

my dad has a PI 2v mustang GT, my brother has a non PI 4v mark viii, and my mom has a PI 2v expedition. all 4.6s. my moms 4.6 is the only one that belongs in a truck. Even in a little 3200 lb coupe, the PI 2v in my dads car feels weak unless its above 3000 rpm. Adding a bunch of weight, more driveline loss, and worse aerodynamics would be awful. You should really think about your perception of 5.4s because those are really the only moduars that will yield truck-like torque and a bunch of top end hp. also, when you say "i know the mustangs 4.6 has major potential and the modular doesnt"...um...all 4.6s and 5.4s are "modulars".

I think you should rebuild your engine and put a blower on it. Terminators made about 320 lb-ft at 2000 rpm. with all the truck stuff on yours im sure you might make a little more but lose some power on the top end.

also, mustang 4.6 2v's had weak connecting pins, limiting them to about 450 hp depending on tune. i dont know how much power you want but just slapping a mustang 4.6 in your truck is going to be a ton of work and yield worse results than what you have now. mustangs are notorious for needing revs to be fast. in a truck youre looking at not even feeling comfortable til 2500 rpm and not being "fast" until 4k.

if all you want is horsepower, why not just get a mustang?

I hate cars, besides i have toys that need to go in the back.....if the 5.4 was a little cheaper to add hp i would, and if you know how i can hook up a 5.4 without spending a rediculous amount of money, please enlighten me.
I just figured the marauders dohc 4.6 would work nice with 300 hp 318tq compared to the trucks 220hp and 290tq. But i guess i will just sit on the trucks 4.6 until i get real facts, not assumptions. But thanks for the info

They are the same engine. The only difference is the intake manifold, exhaust and PCM tuning. They use the same 2V heads and the cams are even the same size.
The Mustangs use Romeo built engines and the trucks use both Romeo and Windsor built 4.6L's. There are slight internal differences with cam retainers and the Romeo uses a 6 bolt flywheel while the Windsor uses 8 bolts.
If you want to go DOHC, look into a Navigator with a 5.4L DOHC and you can get the truck type PCM, wiring harness and exhaust manifolds/exhaust.

You might get with Burnstoughford, he has done the 4.6L Romeo to 5.4L swap.
