I saw a superior Dodge option....
...and I cannot believe Ford has not done it yet. I give Dodge credit here. I saw a commercial earlier for the new Ram, and their Rambox.... bedside integrated storage. I have wanted that on a Ford for YEARS. I hope Ford sees this little widget, and adds it to their line.

Agreed!
I have acquired a brand loyalty with Ford for many years now, but the new Dodge 1500's...I'm really liking. It's kinda like why didn't someone think if it earlier, eh? Dodge was also the first to put doors on the extended cab trucks, and now I don't think you can get any without, can you? Also, they put the doors on the drivers side of the minivans...and again look at how commonplace it is now.
Did you actually see one on person, or just in the brochures? Our local dealer here in town didn't have any with the "Rambox" option as they were just starting to produce 'em about 2 weeks ago. I do however have two brochures. Was wondering how much of the bed width was lost w/this option.

I don't want it on my trucks. I need the extra space in front and behind the wheel wells. Many times I could not have gotten wood, steel or other large objects to fit into the bed without the extra space. (Hypotenuse of a triangle is the longest) Also if you have a topper on your truck the storage on the ram is pretty much worthless. Thanks but no thanks.
On a side note I will say the new Doge Rams are nice looking trucks. I noticed the dual exhaust with cutouts on the bumpers and thought that was a good idea.

wouldnt those "boxs" prevent the use of any kind of canopy or bed topper ???
not to mention i can see them being pryed open by theives hoping to hit the jackpot..
i think its a interesting gimmick but hardly a feature that would make me own a Dodge over a Ford....
it would be a better option to make use of the dead space in front of the rear wheels low on the box.. didnt Ford trucks back in the 70's have a storage box there ??? i seem to recall a small door on the leftside of the trucks..

Space between the wheels wells is only about 50" anyways, so it really doesn't reduce usable space much at all really.

Yes I'm sure. Dodge brought out the rear doors on their extended cab trucks on both sides no less and advertised it as "Cross flow ventilation"
In 1998, the Quad Cab™ body style was the first extended-cab pickup truck in the industry to feature four doors. Midyear in 1998, next-generation front airbags were introduced; a passenger side airbag switch was added; a removable storage module was added underneath the Quad Cab rear seats; and the Cummins turbodiesel was upgraded with more powerful.

I see the under bed storage to be a silly idea on a truck, for my needs. What am I supposed to do if I have stuff in the bed? Unload it all to get to this door? The bed rails aren't going anywhere, and don't typically have any say in the matter of work (unless you have a tonneau like already discussed). Time will tell.
