My mustang would not move in 1 inch of snow, it had those performance tires on it that had very light tread. If I tell ya it didn't want to go, thats what I mean. I have off roaded for 30 years and took vehicle where a lot of people would be afraid to drag a chain. So I don't concider myself a poor driver. When I left the garage as long as I kept it moving I could get down to the main road, but if I had to stop, it would just set and spin. The cars are light in the rear any way, put what amounts to slicks on it and it was not a winter car.

I drove two of my mustangs year round, both my 1988 GT and my 2202 Cobra, and they did fine in the snow and ice, until the snow got deep, then the ground clearance was an issue.
I used pure winter tires, with studs on both.

I drove my 87 mustang in the winter one winter, and it was terrible in the snow! Too much power, not enough traction. I didnt have winter grips on there either. I managed with it though, it was better then walking!

i still had my stock goodyears that were on from factory at the time when i took mine out... hasnt iced over like that again since i got my new tires... main reason i got rid of the goodyears was because well for one they were wearing out... but they still had some life in them... the other reason i got rid of them was cuz when it would rain or even be dry id lose traction with them... the last time it almost put me in the wall... so i changed them off for something with better grip.. but still think its interesting them stockers did great in the snow.. but couldnt handle the little bit of rain or dry surface...

If you think your Ford dealer is useless, you should try dealing with my local Dodge dealer.......even worse. I have an 08 Caravan that the ABS wiring harness came loose from its retainer clip and fell down onto the driveshaft and burnt it in two. Dealer says not covered under warranty because some animal could have pulled it down or I could ran over something and pulled it loose? No evidence of either. Van had 800 miles on it...less than a week old. How's that for independent!

So many subjects on this thread, but I want to comment on the Mustangs in the snow. The BF Goodrich are not too good. My wife is currently driving an 08 that my son had, but for various reasons he's on "vacation" from driving right now. Anyway, I wanted Bizzaks but could't get them reasonably so I went with the new General Altimax Arctic (full set of 4), they are excellent, almost hard to believe the difference. I paid about $430 installed and balanced, but they must come off as soon as winter is done because they are for cold temp range only and must come off. Don't care, I'll get at least 3 seasons from them. These tires are probably the best I've driven on a car in the winter, I know some people diss General, but these are great tires.

ive never had general... so wouldnt know... less by general your meaning "bottom dollar"/discount tires like dad always use to put on my cars... i hated when he did too cuz the cars always rode ruff and felt like they always had unbalanced tires...

By far the worst company to get warranty work done by IMO is toyota.
I bought 2 different toyotas both brand new, that were total lemons, and had to fight and finally sue to get anything done.
I had a chevy full size cargo van that had some serious issues, but at least when i demanded they fix the thing under warranty, they finally did.
Honda fixed stuff under warranty on my goldwing years ago, that they had no reason to warranty.
Heck i admitted i broke a part and it was my fault, i was told no worries, we will get that under warranty for ya, the bikes only 2 months old....I was stunned.

And if it isn't one warrany issue it's another, I just sent Weil Mclain a fine letter, 14 month old brand new heating system failed, cost over $700 to get it back running, some stupid part that's only covered for 12 months, "we'll see".....

Well, I do agree with your statement to a point. Automakers don't go for the customers much anymore but rather their own personal gain, except Ford.
I think Ford does a fantastic job. I feel like family whenever I go to a Ford dealer, especially Pearson Ford on Michigan Road in Indy.
When Ford was redesigning the 2009 F150, they went and asked 11,000 truck owners what they wanted on their truck. Ford answered that, imo.
The tail-gate and side steps that fold out of the way are ingenious. I have used them, and I was hooked. They help me better with loading and unloading more than anything. Ford makes their vehicles with the best quality, imo.
Other companies, (i.e. Dodge, GMC/Chevy, Toyota) don't have the quality or consumer relations like Ford. I think Ford has the best trucks out there, and I am not saying that just because this is FTE. I base this off of experience between different car companies and comparing them. Yeah, Ford offers completely different packages and some are a little crazy (i.e. FX4 Cabela's and F-450 Harley-Davidson) but they are all good and in demand by the consumers. I love Ford and their relations to the consumers. That is why I would rarely choose any other company to buy a vehicle.
I was at a buddies, we are rebuilding a GMC 6.5 diesel, yes I know I said the G word LOL.
Anyhow we came to a conclusion that was based on some past and very recent personal experiences dealing with OEM car companies.
Now just before Christmas the 23th of December to be exact my wife and I were treated very poorly by the local ford dealership, not Ford the company.
Then getting back to this past week my GMC buddy goes into a local GM dealership and says I need to price out a couple of 6.5 bare heads how much.
The parts guy says $2,600.00 each my friend says no wonder no one buys anything from you guys your prices are ludicrous, his friend says don't worry they're all on government welfare My friends laughed the GM folks not so much.
Now my pal went to a local engine shop the bare heads were the new 4 pounds heavier improved heads around $300.00 each $500.00 fully dressed ie valves machined and ready for bolt on.
So we all came to the conclusion maybe some of the fault lies with the dealerships that are trying to sell something for almost 9X the price everyone else is selling it for.
Rick.

Don't even get me started on dealer mark up.
I worked in a parts dept at a dealer, the gouging is insane.

My SD came with Generals and they were decent tires. Never had problems with them and the tread was decent and the traction was good. Having issues with Cooper made tires now, out of 8 tires so far 5 of them have sidewall cracking issues.
Hancook makes a very nice winter tire also, I was looking at them the other day.

Tell me about it. I only get the part at the dealer after at least 2 places don't have the part I'm looking for, last resort. Service is the same way, overpriced.
