i agree

i agree with on on most points you've made. the guys who design ford trucks and cars leave to wonder what they were thinking. the cars them selves don't do anything for me at all exept the mustang. the last couple of years i thought ford and gm were trying to see who could make the uglyest truck, i don't get where they are coming from on thier designs. i'm a diehard ford man, the only vehicle ford makes now other than the mustang that i like is the f250, guess i'll get one in the spring unless i run across a mint 1964 galaxie 500 with a 289 V8. ford and chevy both made some very nice looking cars in the 60s, both started going down hill in the mid 70s.

There was some nice fords in the 80's like the mustang, aero T-birds. The 90's, like the mustang, T-bird and ZX2. The 2000's, like the mustang, T-bird, fusion, focus and the ford GT-40, also mercury's stand alone cougar was pretty sharp.

Dude, I have a lot of respect for ya, but you've got to be kidding me. The stangs of the '80's were junk except for the 5.0's. The V-8 T-birds / Cougars were crap. The new Cougar is nothing too impressive either. It's taken FMC many decades to finally build a solid sedan that will last reliably. I've personally had great luck with all of my Fords, but I know many who haven't. I just helped a co-worker buy a car. He chose a VW Rabbit. His Civic was totaled. I mentioned Ford and he laughed at me. But, it's guys like us that are waiving Ford's banner and generating more interest for the company.

Lots of people here on FTE wave the Ford banner, but how many have bought a NEW Ford lately? // Wendell has, I've just bought two...(2008 Fusion & Edge)...who else? // Waving the banner doesn't help Ford worth a hoot, if no one buys new vehicles.

I have bought 22 NEW fords in the last 11 years.

Partly because I owned a business that used the E350 cargo vans.

Like I've said, I've bought fords all my life and have never had any problems no matter whitch decade it was, We had an 86 tempo and put 230,000 miles on it and gave it to a guy at church who is still driving it to work. My son had an 87 turbo coupe, it was anwesome car. The mustang got it's legs back during the 80's, There's cars I've liked in every decade, I'm sorry if that offends some, but thats the way it is. The new cars are the best built ever, besides maybe the model T or A.

my uncles been a ford guy from day one.. the only car i know of that hes reallly had problem with was his Five Hundred.. but from what the guys both at the dealership and shops told him the entire Five Hundred line had alot of grimlins in it that ford never worked out... and because of those grimlins the resale value on it was terrible...

So are you saying that I have to buy a new Ford every two years in order to stand behind my words? I've bought 7 new Fords in 20 years. Because of Forces beyond my control, my '04 Expy is practically worthless, I bought it for well below invoice and I'm still upside down. I'll be out of the market for another year. In the mean time, I'll do my best for Ford and attempt to steer business in thier direction.

I choose not to buy new vehicles of any make and model, and choose to buy used. I feel a person has to really buy good quality if you buy used. (I just cant seem to get over the fact that you lose so much value as soon as you drive off of the lot!)

Anyways i personally stand behind a product, that is worth standing behind. I think by waving a flag for other used vehicle buyers, still helps a company out, and if a person buys say a used ford truck, and has great luck with it, they may just buy a brand new one next time!

Unfortunately it also works the other way. If they buy a used truck and it turns out to be a pos, chances are they wont buy another of that brand. (works the same for new though!)

agreed sheldon... every maker out there has their lemons.. and im always up for giving companys seconds chances... i use to have GM's.. well actually i still do... but ive had 4 of them... the only one i ever liked was the first one... but the 3 after that were money pits... constantly looking at repairs...

1st one i had was a 79 Surburban.. ran great.. built like a tank, ran like one.. and could take a hit like a tank and keep on going.. only problems i had with it was itd burn through starters like crazy.. and had to put a pen in the carb to get it to start the first time of the day or itd flood... but that was more a carb adjustment problem there... so im not gonna blame that on GM...

2nd one i had was a 87 Cutlass Ciera.. It was constantly having problems with failing sensors and breaking things mechanically... id practically rebuilt half the engine compartment before trading it to dad for my current truck...

3rd one i had was a 92 Lesabre.. This one was nothing but an elctrical nightmare... started out with the turn signal switch smoking.. (shorted out and physically smoke emitted from the column).. after that it was problem after problem.. even had the computer fry on me... I eventually gave this thing away to my brother... every time i had to fix something on this thing it was $300 PER PART...

4th and final GM.. my current truck s10... use to be very unreliable... but lately with all the work ive put into it its been getting better... its a good lil truck for what i need it for... but does have some downsides to it.. it shows its age cuz it keeps breaking things... (but what do ya expect from something thats 22 yrs old)... last 4 yrs ive pretty much replaced alot of its parts.. some pieces ive actually had to rewire entirety...

Ive had good and bad experiences with GM... so im on the fence of whether or not id ever buy another... but ive loved fords since i was little and the first car i actually bought myself was a ford.. and i have that as my DD... have no complaints with it either.. and i plan for my next vehicle to be a Ford Truck.. for all i know my ford truck could be a lemon from the start too... but wont know till i get it..

Like i said before.. every auto maker out there has their lemons.. whether it be an entire model line... or even if its just a single vehicle in a line where others havent had problems... there out there with everyone...

Some people could break a cotton ball, bad luck just follows them no matter what they buy. When life hands me lemons, I make lemonade he he. I buy new and I buy old, it just depends on what I want at the time. I'm on my 7th ranger since they were introduced in 83. Since they don't change much, I can be quite happy with a ranger. I keep my wife in new cars for piece of mind. I buy old jeeps to stay away from chrysler, even though I have owned chrysler jeeps, I perfer the old AMC, kaiser or willys, just because there old school. I love old vehicles, I wish I could restore old fords and jeeps for a living. I also like alot of the new fords, but the ranger meets my needs perfectly as long as my wife can keep all 4 wheels on the ground. We had an 08 fusion, just an awesome car, I traded it for my ranger as I need a 4x4 truck worse than a car. We had an 07 mustang GT/CS, it was fast and furious, but not praticle for us, so she traded it in on the mariner. Last winter was the first year in our married life that we didn't have a 4x4 between us, I said never again. We live in the country and have a long up hill driveway. The mustang wouldn't move on an inch of snow and I had to shovel the fusion in and out. I said there will be no more days like that, too old for that craziness. So were both back into 4wd's. The jeeps don't see salt, as I'm restoring them to off/road classics. Ford has never left me or her walking, unless we were stuck he he. So if it is not broke, why fix it. Sure all auto makers have there lemons, I just have never gotten one. I even had pinto's back in the day and loved those little cars even when others said they were junk. I never had a problem out of them. I wouldn't mind having another pinto to restore. I'm just a ford and jeep nut, If I had my way, I would own 100 old fords and jeeps. Maybe even throw in an old scout and VW bug for good measure.

AMC made some great cars back in the day.. thats for sure....

i always find it hilarious when people talk about how bad mustangs are in the snow... first year i had mine the roads iced over every night for a week... and i didnt get off work till 2am... I never had a single problem driving on that ice.. even pulled into the parking lot at the mall and had some fun there.... but as far as diving normally on the roads i didnt have a problem.. even when the stuff started melting and started becoming patchy...

No, I would not say that you have to buy a new Ford every two years.

The facts are...some people on FTE that rag on Toyota haven't bought a new Ford in years, if ever.

Some of these same peeps also rag on the dealers prices for parts, and then buy gypo parts from Blotto-Zone, then complain about the poor quality.

Where do most of the automakers profit come from, parts or vehicle sales.

Parts sales is the answer.

The Big Dummy has bought the following new Fords:

1965, 1968, 1971, 1979, 1988, 1992, and 2004 Ford pickups.

1979 T-Bird, 1983 LTD, 2008: Fusion & Edge.

Besides the new vehicles, I've bought...at least...70 used Ford products since 1956. That's right...Seventy!

Bought my first old rolling pile of miseries in 1956, a nice original 1936 Lincoln Zephyr V12 for 200 bucks.

You've amassed quite any inventory over the years, very impressive. I've owned new and used Ford exclusively for 25 years (except for the FREE civic). I encourage people to buy Ford products as I believe they are as good as anything on the road. With that said, Ford has had plenty of tough years IRT quality, styling, etc. I believe they are on the right track and have been for 10+ years. I go to the mat for Ford everyday and likewise my loyalty to Ford has earned me the right to voice my opinions, good, bad or otherwise.
