Economic Times for Warrantys

Fellow FTE,
My warranty is coming up and was looking for some thoughts on what you all think about what is happening with Detroit and the purchase of an Ford ESP and what you might think that would happen to that ESP if the Company files for chapter 11.
Thanks for your time.

If you want an extended warranty, I would only recommend the Ford ESP. No 3rd party warranties for me. If you think Ford is risky, the others are much worse given real life stories.

So the question remains, do you think Ford will go BK? I don't, but then, none of us have a crystal ball.

Thanks for the reply bpounds.
I guess it is not so much buying the ESP but hoping the dealerships don't start to go under as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about dealerships shutting down. Yes, some of them may but you can get warranty coverage with ESP at other dealers. It may mean driving a little further or in the worst case scenario, having to have the truck towed there. ESP is Ford's warranty, not the individual dealer's. I got the ESP Premium Care on my '05. Some say it is a waste of money but it's peace of mind for me. It's one of those things that I'd rather have and not need rather than the other way around. With the price of replacing the engine or tranny, etc., I wouldn't chance not having it. Just my 2 cents.

+1 for this.

I wouldn't be too worried about buying from Ford. They most likely won't disappear from the face of the Earth. If things get "that bad", a warranty on your truck may be the least of your worries. Also, if everyone stops buying from them they'll be in worse shape. I like having the ESP Premium because where ever I am, I have somewhere to go if there's a problem. I haven't used it yet luckily but it's peace of mind.

Later...
Brewster...
