Question Exploded view of 54 F100 Clutch/Brake

Does anyone have a view of the clutch and brake setup. I pulled mine out of my pile of parts and I need to see how it goes together and attaches to the frame.

Google Kevin's 1953 F100. Go to project Archives. Clutch Rebuild July 2005. He has a good picture of the linkage.

Here's the pic and a link to the page, (some web pages leave off the file extension in the properties tab, I was able to paste this one and add ".jpg" to the end and it worked.)

Thanks guys. What is the "U" shaped (not sure what it's called) thing attached to on the left? Mine wasn't together when I got it so I'm having to figure out how this thing goes together.

Hi there Low!

Well, I'm familiar with the picture posted above because it's part of a series that were posted for an Overdrive Transmission on an IL6 thread we just ran through.

To answer your question, the "U" shaped thing is attached to a "clutch release equalizer bracket" (7507 in the top picture in my next post) which is bolted to the side shifter plate on the transmission just above the shift levers. The "U" shaped thing is called the clutch release equalizer (or something close) (7572 in the second picture in my next post) Those two pieces bolt together with a sliding bolt so that 7572 can pivot when th eclutch pedal is pushed.

Funny thing about this picture is it's installed upside down if in fact that is a 3spd. They were installed that way on the 5 spds.

I have two exploded drawings I can post, but I have to scan them and put them in my gallery. I'll be back in a minute.

Ok,

But just FYI, here's the pics - maybe they will help. About all you'll have to do is make a new bracket and figure some way to attach it to the T5.

Good Luck,

J!

PS I edited in a few comments in my post #6 above for clarification.

You have to stand on your left foot when you do it. Havi says chewing gum helps but I've never tried that personally!

I'll be darned. Never noticed that. Guess I'll have to take care of that next time I'm out in the shed. Doesn't seem to affect its operation, though!

I wouldn't think that it would....basically you are just rotating around that hole that bolts up the "U" anyway, so that hole is in the same position.

The only reason I brought it up is I noticed in the picture you didn't have the shifters hooked up yet and I was thinking that perhaps it might have interfered with the back shifter later on and yo might have flipped it back at that point.

When I take pictures of things as I'm putting them back together, sometimes I will mis install a part, then have to correct it later on in the assembly...But I don't remember to mention it in the pictures.

If it works ok - go for it....I love these trucks, they are so forgiving!

Hopefully you won't mind if I ask a question while the discussion is on the brake/clutch assembly especially since there is a nice pic to reference. I'm trying to detach the entire assembly from the frame. I've got it loose but can't figure out what to take off so I can slide it through the frame rail. I'll try to take a pic and post. Thanks.
